The Screenwriting Thread

I am currently working on three projects, all involving supernatural aspects. Although they all are supernatural, they are also all totally different.

Whata a good site to upload something but not making it so everyone can see it. Where you choose who you can decide to send it too.

I got a question and i'm not sure where i would put the thread at? If it goes in community or in fan fict.

The question is how do you go about getting your self repersented in the entertainment business. What i'm trying to say is how would i go about trying to get a agent or someone that could help me out in the business.

Or whats a good site to post my stuff on so people can take a look at it.

Getting an agent is a rather tricky process.

First and foremost, if it takes a while, dont think it as a reflection on your talent. Its really, as much as this is a cliche, about who you know and luck.

If you're seeking representation as a writer, there are two main ways. First, enter your scripts in Screenplay Competitions. Moving beyond preliminary rounds will get you notice by agents and managers.

You can also send out querry letters to agents, describing your script. if they want to read it, they will ask.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS register your script with the WGA. Its 20 bucks and provides you with protection.

If you are seeking rep as a director...shoot ALOT and try to work the festivals and competitions. Even the smaller ones can be beneficial.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I know about the WGA registering part.

I've seen that querry thing when i do alot of searches. What does that mean?

Can I post two of my treatments here and get feedback? Bear in mind, there only the basic story, and the screenplay is yet to follow.

Basically, for my next year of college, I have to make a 10 minute short film by myself. Last year, it seemed to be the horror films that were the best, so I've decided to make a horror film myself this year, and this is the first of two ideas I've got:

As the film opens, we see a POV shot of the spirit roaming through the woods. It starts to pick up pace, and zooms in on an unsuspecting camper as the film smash cuts to a teenager lying in bed. His room is tidy and unkempt, and he himself looks tired and unhealthy. We notice several shots of newspapers all saying the same thing; a local boy (the camper from the beginning) has dissappeared. We also see several photos of the two boys together; they are best friends. After preparing for work (via a montage) he leaves his drunken, asleep step-father at home. Caught up in his own grief, our main character (James) is non-respondant, and shows little interest in working. As he walks home, he sees the discombobulated spirit of the other boy (Benjamin) who tells him to “come with me” in reversed speech. This amazing site is inturrupted by a dog walker, and the spirit dissappears. Later that night, the spirit reappears in James’ home, telling him the same as before, but in a more aggressive manner. He is completely spooked by his friends presence, and decides to venture into the woods to find his friend. After another preparing montage, he starts his journey towards the woods. He arrives at the woods, and ventures in, eventually finding the campsite of Ben. It is undisturbed, but has no sign of Ben anywhere. He sets up for the night, and slowly drifts off to sleep. He wakes up on a platform on a train station. Confused, he wonders around, stopping on the tracks when he hears a train slowly approaching. The train draws nearer, but James’ doesn’t move, nor look disturbed. It draws nearer and nearer, getting faster and faster and louder and louder, until just as its about to hit James…He wakes up, it was all a dream. He hears some mysterious whispers emintating from somewhere near, and goes to investigate. As the whispers draw nearer, they seem to be coming from a tree. He moves closer and closer to the tree when leaves blow in his face, and he stumbles to the ground, as explosions of leaves blow all around him, drawing closer to him when…He wakes up, it was all a dream. He breathes a sigh of relief, and turns over to see Ben wielding a huge knife, who stars to stab James with it as he call out in terror…James wakes up once again, the previous scenes being a dream within a dream within a dream. After eating breakfast, he follows a trail of footprints through the woods, with the whispers growing louder and louder the closer he gets. The trail stops dead at a bush, which the whispers seem to be eminating from, but when James moves the bush back, there is nothing there. Crying out of desperation, he falls to his knee’s, calling out for whatever is tormenting him to leave him alone. As he does this, the whispers seem to get unbearably loud, but when he tears up and throws away a picture of him and Ben he had in his pocket, they stop. He stands up seemingly free from torment. He breathes a sigh of relief, when Ben jumps out of the bush and drags James in.

you can find several examples of a querry letter online.

basically, it tells a little about the script your pushing...a brifef synopsis and a paragraph about the script in regards to what makes it compelling.

You end with a statement about yourself.

Use proper business letter format and always include a self addressed stamped envelope.

What happens if you really have nothing to say about your self cause you're a new writter but written a few scripts?

Could someone post a example of one on here?

I agree, but I was limited to 10 - 15 pages as it was a school thing. And it was 15 pages in word.

I was just wondering if your script is protected on Script Buddy?

Also, is there any quick way of getting it from word onto Script Buddy without having to actually type it on their format, (add dialog, add scene heading, e.t.c.)?

It says what ever is osted is owned by the person who posts it.

And yes you have to type it up their way.

Usually if you do a google search for a movie you're looking for you can find one.

I feel so bad, I've been neglecting my script to write my story. :(

Congrats Assassin :)
