The Screenwriting Thread

Sorry, I don't quote posts....I was referring to the post above yours.

I am getting out the Navy and going to use that glorious GI bill to go to film school....gonna see about screenwriting classes as thats what I want to do

I thought of another idea for a movie while I was in bed the other night tying to get to sleep. It be one of those shaky cam type movies.

Well, this guy has to stay in a place that some say is haunted of whatever, still haven't figured out where. But he has to take this video camera and record everything and 5 other people will be in there.

And its his job to keep them safe, cause there is 10 million at stake for him here and everytime one of them say dies, he loses 2 million and if all 5 die he gets no money and he's trapped there forever.

He's more a less a jerk who cares only for himself and the moral is he needs to learn to work with others if he wants the money and to survive.

Attending film school, hopefully in Feb, I've thought about screenwriting, but I want to produce...

I kinda like it.

Especially with the Saw craze going around. Could be a really great horror film and the shaky cam style is popular with the recent release of Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield.
I kinda got the idea from Paranormal Activity and me just hating it so much. I don't know why, but I think hate it so much for some reason.

i kinda feel the Saw films(which I like) are gonna be replaced with the Paranormal Activity type movies since a sequel to that is coming out this year.

-sigh- I'm a sad Panda. Have you ever felt you had a real good idea, but when you try to get people to help you right it, they hear it's something that's a bit sacrilege in it's fan base, so they don't want to do it, before they even hear a thorough break down of it?

Is there a way to adapt that idea to an original character???
The Galaxy Quest movie was originally supposed to be Star Trek with the characters based on their celebrity actors but no one would sign off on it so it turned into something else.

Are you talking about a fan fiction script or what? But yeah, i kinda know what you mean. You barely just get the idea out and no one wants to hear you on it.

It is a bit of fan fiction, yes. I find they are great practice.
I guess people who read fan fict can be a lot harder on the writer since its based on material that already exists. I really don't do it, but I'm not gonna tell others not too.

Like I said, it's great practice in between original ideas. And it's the only kind of fiction I'd probably ever put up on the internet. Who knows what could become of an original idea one day.

I guess you could say alot of my ideas and stuff have elements from other films, but not so much that they aren't my own original ideas themselves.

I think that's every idea nowadays in a way. It's a great dispute in the writing world if there actually is any such thing as an original idea anymore. Everything's been done, you just have to take a basic idea and lay your own stamp and ground on it to make it ''original."

Exactly, cause everything has already been done and it's up to you the writer to make it interesting, even if the idea has prolly been done before.

Cause like you said nothing is really original, cause it's all been done before and just having people trying to put their own stamp on something as theirs.

Yeah. I get a lot of my ideas from all the sci-fi stuff I watch. I just hope that I'm putting enough of myself into it that they come out "original."

...Did you just say the same thing twice?

well just got done with a look at the school I am contemplating going to....very nice. Full Sail in Orlando

They had a open house this weekend that I went to. The film side is very solid. They have their own film studio and backlot. Every student gets a free Macbook with relevant programs loaded on it. Six months in the film students are putting together film projects
