The Seinfeld 10th Anniversary Thread

Nope, looked at my season 3 box-set before typing.

Well, if I may nitpick for a second, those actually are all episodes from season 4. You were probably looking at your SERIES 3 box set which is actually season 4 (because the first box set aka series 1 includes the first 2 seasons.)

Either way, I agree with you on most of what else you said. This was one of the greatest shows of all time and "The Chinese Restuarant" was a great episode.

Happy Festivus, everyone!

Ah, it appears you're right. Never-the-less, season 3 had some amazing episodes as well. The Pen, The Pez Dispenser, The Red Dot, The Dog, The Library, The Keys, The Cafe (which marked the first appearance of the classic character Babu), the episode where Jerry and Elaine are stuck at the party of the guy they don't know (can't remember the name), and The Parking Garage and the Parking Space, both classics! The two Keith Hernandez episodes (*inner-monologue* "Who does he think he is?" "I'm Keith Hernandez" :lmao:), and The Subway! THE SUBWAY! Yeeah, gotta disagree with the assessment Catman made of the first 4 seasons sucking. The show was consistently good in season 2 and became GREAT in season 3. As for season 4, that was just the perfect season.

Its a Festivus, for the Rest-of-us!

Hehe, speaking of Seinfeld catch phrases, what is everyone's favorite? Mine is a tie between "SERENITY NOW!" and "But I don't wanna be a pirate!"

Mine is:

"Hello, Newman!" and the way that Jerry makes a face when he says it is genius.

And "No Soup for You."

I never read about that idea for a short scene at Monk's after they get out of jail. That would be the perfect reunion, no need to a whole hour, just 5 minutes or so, in classic Seinfeld fashion, have George complain about some ridiculous small thing, Jerry talk about how the worst part was a sloppy cellmate or something, end with "Well, wanna catch a movie?" "Yea." "Sure, why not." "Giddyup." Have them just go back to their normal lives like it didn't even effect them, they learned no lesson from it or anything lol.

I never said the first 4 seasons. I said 3. I said season 4 was the first good one.

Seinfeld went out on top (more or less, the people wanted more and it didn't go out in a forgotten whimper like Frasier) and looking back it was still the right move.

However...
Sex and the City has its movie, The X-Files' second movie is out this summer, Arrested Development is getting a movie... there should be a Seinfeld movie... that ends up disappointing everyone.

Seinfeld ended but it allowed Curb Your Enthusiasm to be born.

i would like to see a reunion episode down the line . i tmight be weird considering the public's view of michael richards . he certiainly isnt kramer anymore.

Oh, Michael...

What ever happened?

That being said...Seinfeld is the greatest show ever.

Also, on Inside the Actor's Studio, Julia Louis-Dreyfus said that before the final episode began filming, they got into a huddle...and Jerry began crying, then everyone else. Thats so amazing, that even Jerry began crying. I mean, sure, it was his baby and all. Too bad Larry David got out when he did.

The way things are going in society we will likely never see a series finale event like that ever again with 76 million. Friends had 50 million, Everybody Loves Raymond with 32 million.

Maybe a many years ago The Simpsons could've pulled off some high numbers with a hyped finale when they were still respectable. While the series finale wasn't well received, the 5 months of hype was something else. We'll have our favourite shows exit but nothing on the grand scale like that.

Well, Seinfeld's finale was so big because it was a show for everyone, was able to cross demographics incredibly well. Friends was much more popular with women than with men, Everbody Loves Raymond was more geared towards older viewers, Seinfeld was enjoyed by young and old, men and women. The only show I could see capturing that broad of an audience currently is The Office, but The Office doesn't have as many viewers as Seinfeld did.

The Office's one hour season finale earned just over 8 million viewers.

Seinfeld is a great show, but it's hardly the longest-running or most influential (or variant) show of all time. It doesn't hold a candle to something like I Love Lucy.
