i really wish it had performed well enough to get a sequel
Is his ability to change his facial features something ripped from the comics, or was it created for the movie?I love The Shadow, and I've actually been reading a lot of Shadow comic book collections lately from various runs. Despite some deviances, the movie got so much right and really nailed the tone. When reading them, I can only picture Baldwin's voice as The Shadow.
From the comics. It's a form of psychic powers like when Shiwan Khan makes that hotel invisible. Is his ability to change his facial features something ripped from the comics, or was it created for the movie?

Agreed about the art, and thanks for explaining.I don't think it's ever been explicitly stated in the various comics that he alters his facial structure when appearing as The Shadow. I've read some comics that depict him as having the same big/hooked nose as Cranston that he does as The Shadow, and others that depict Cranston's face as looking a bit different.
The fact that he changed his face in the film is in line with the character's long-standing ability to cloud men's minds and appear as he sees fit to others, but I think they simply chose to do so in the film to do their best to recreate his appearance in the comics, and also to give Baldwin more pronounced facial features as The Shadow.
Either way, I really liked the concept and effect in the film. It was like he was ripped from the comics and helped to bring out the intensity in his eyes. Comic books created after the movie kept the same look. The best drawings of him are by Alex Ross.

Perhaps he used his brother Daniel as a reference model for the artwork?Looking at the gifs above, I never noticed how Alec becomes his brother Daniel when he becomes The Shadow.![]()
you might be rightOR his brother became a body double..
Maybe it was a bit goofy.Yeah, I remember loving this movie when it came out. It was certainly goofy (I love the part where an ancient Mongol warrior is just casually walking down the street in New York and no one bats an eye), but it had a cool style and Baldwin was really good in it. Makes you wonder how he might have been as Batman. Oh, and you can't beat Penelope Ann Miller and those sexy outfits she wore.
Also, this movie had one of my all time favorite CBM theme songs.
