For those that aren't familiar with it; this is a concept/hypothesis that humans aren't, or more specifically, weren't the first species on Earth to develop a civilisation, and whether it would be possible to detect it. Apparently there's recently been a paper published on it, titled accordingly.
Interested to know what other people here think. I struggle to believe the possibility myself, due to a lack of evidence. The Jurassic Era was some 145million years ago, and the Cretaceous was some 75million years ago. Humanity (as far as we know) has existed for only 300,000 years, so there's a big gap where another civilisation could have existed, but nothing remotely concrete.
We've found evidence of dinosaurs, mammals, fish and other creatures in fossils, so we know that they existed (unless you're into your conspiracies and/or are a creationist and think it's all been planted) - either way, there's no evidence or fossils (etc) of anything remotely detailing another civilisation that predated humanity, so I'm pondering whether the scientists in question aren't actually putting their funding to the best of uses.
