The Smurfs...heading to the big-screen!

I don't remember Scotsman Smurf.

Its probably one of the newest Smurfs named Gutsy Smurf voiced by Scottish born actor Alan Cumming so technically it will be Scotsman or Scottish Smurf but he will go by the name Gutsy Smurf in the movie. He will probably do a parody of Mel Gibson's speech in the movie Braveheart also.

what happened to the "lord of the rings" style epic adventure they were talking about :/

Sounds like more of an Enchanted type adventure & with Katy Perry playing Smurfette she will probably be singing songs throughout the movie so look for this to be a musical also.

When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours -- in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

I think you can blame Alvin and the Chipmunks for that. Originally, they were planning a CGI Animated film trilogy. At the time, the story was going to be about

"We’ll learn [more] about Gargamel and Smurf Soup and how all that began and what really goes on in that castle. What his backstory really was. There’s an all-powerful wizard… there’s all sorts of things that get revealed as we go along".

When the Chipmunks made blockbuster money, they switched it to live-action and set it in New York.

They still could have done it live action and maintained that whole thing if they wanted by shooting it overseas in Europe or New Zealand or something, they just chose to go the easy route.

My Lord, Azrael is the creepiest CG creation there, and that includes the Smurfs.

Oh so they´re gonna replace every single cuss word with a "smurf" on it? "¿Where the smurf are we?" "I just smurf´d in my mouth"
Really?

So it's from the director or Scooby Doo 1 & 2

Katy Perry's voice was forced with Smurfette.the same with George Lopez.

Azrael and Gargamel are fantastic.

That was about the only thing I liked about it. Nothing made sense but it's the same thing as Alvin and the Chipmunks so I'll watch it eventually.

I just think broad humor doesn't work with The Smurfs. You needed something that is more family oriented, but at the sametime, didn't insult the audience either.

This is kinda lame.

I liked how they still somewhat physically abuse Brainy for being too talkative, but i hope we get one scene of them tossing him off and him landing on his head.

Yep - and the writer actually got paid for it. I can see him brainstorming right now... "Let's see -- one Smurf should say 'Quit your smurfin'!' and the other Smurf responds 'Oh yeah? Smurf off!', and then a third Smurf says 'I just smurfed my pants!' --- Awesome! This stuff writes itself!"

Basically all the same "smurf" = swear word jokes we Gen-Xers told back in the '80s when we were kids.
But it does seem like Gargamel and Azrael could have some legitimately funny lines. I'm not optimistic however.

Ah the kids will love it and thats all you can ask for. Hank Azaria looks great and I think it could be an enjoyable film but my god they went way too far with the using smurf instead of a swear word. It's funny if you do it once or maybe twice but they went way too far with it.

the fact that this movie already has George Lopez brings the quality of the film down.

It's even more bad considering in the trailer he has the most lines. Hell, Papa Smurf didn't even talk.
