THE SPIRIT Blu-ray Review

Glad it comes with an excellent video transfer. I'll be picking this up. I was hoping for a hell of a lot more with this, but I still enjoyed the film.

I didnt see it in the theaters but I'm in love with the digital backlot type of filming so I'll eventually have to pick it up.

I know the movie was bad. But I still liked it for some reason.

I don't think it's nearly as bad as people would have you think. It's visually stunning and if anything you can get a laugh out of it.

"And this is for MUFFIN!"

It's still enjoyable as far as I'm concerned.

I'll rent it for the commentary. Few things are as entertaining as the ramblings of a mad man.

Maybe I'll watch a few clips of the commentary should it slip onto youtube. I'd like to hear how the "History Repeats" feaurette is, it'd be cool if it was more legitimate than actors saying "yeah, they sure were comic books! which I read!"

I just got the two-disc set. Excellent extras. I wish the Punisher War Zone extras could have been like this one.

I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. Would I recommend it to "everyone"? No. It is a film that you need to watch within a certain context. I watch this film from the same perspective as Flash Gordon(1981), Army of Darkness, and The Phantom(1996). That's how I think this film works.

This movie was okay for the first half hour, up until you saw Sam Jackson in the kimono at the dojo or whatever the hell it was. At that point I threw my arms up and said "**** it". It was all downhill from there. Thank God I didn't see this in theaters.

I watched it late last night and I absolutely hated it. So did my sister. As a matter of fact I believe it had to be the worst movie of 08. I can't think of one good thing about it.

The acting was terrible. (although the Wonder Years dad did a somewhat decent job)

The dialogue was terrible

The story/plot was terrible.

The direction was terrible

The movie was enitrely uninteresting/boring. It didn't even look good.

Movies with out of this world bad previews rarely are as bad as the previews but The Spirit might have been even worst. Even PWZ was better and that was a peice of s**t. Did I forget to mention that the movie, for some reason, used the Batman 89 theme music?? Huh?

I knew it was going to be awful after the first minute of it stinking up the DVD player.

Movie is fantastic visually. But I just couldn't get into the movie itself. I didn't like the camp.

It is, without doubt, one of the best films I have ever SEEN.

It is, without exception, the worst film I have ever HEARD.

Macht played Denny nearly perfectly, and the women were really well done, with the exception of Plaster of Paris, but Miller's dialogue is just so atrocious that the film had no choice but to completely and utterly fail in theatres.

I love Eisner's work, I love the Spirit comics, and I love WATCHING this film, but I have to listen to a soundtrack and treat it like a silent film to be able to stomach it, because Miller's script is so unbearably awful.

Great to look at, tho.

I won't be getting this, it's dreadful on every level.

The best part of the movie is surely it's visuals as the story is certainly not there and the acting is wooden at best, with the exception of maybe Samuel L. Jackson which felt more over acted at times but certainly not dull. But even visually it had too much of a "been there done that" feeling because of the rip off Sin City look. I could really have done without all the white silhouettes and white ink character details which were straight out of Sin City. It looked as if they colorized unused Sin City footage and released that. Nothing new.
Nothing new + a sucky story + sucky acting + unknown character = certain flop. It should have been a predictable formula really.

But I will sure rent the Blu-ray to watch the extras.

I though the movie needed more of Morgenstern, who reminded me of Sandra Bullocks' character in Demolition Man. I like that dynamic

Next to The Octupus henchmen I thought she was the second most annoying character in the movie.

the funny thing is that I keep hearing that and..I don't see why she's annoying to some peope.

a.) she's barely in the movie and b.) she's the actress who shows some enthusiasm.
