The Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski developing 'Sense8'

Bloody hell the pilot was an hour long lol look I have no idea what I was going on. They crammed in way too much into this pilot with trying to estaished all the charcaters. There was lack of focus, confusing storyline. I mean okay, premise is simple. Somehow this lady who sees things that other people can't ( she was on drug in the first scene, I'm not hot gen sure if it was the drugs that were causing her to hallucinate and see things or it was her super powers or whatever )kills herself and then suddenly all these people from around the world Are linked to each other without any explanation whatsoever.

Literally, some scenes felt like that scene from AoU where Wanda warps Thor's mind and he walks into his vision In a different location. That happened to two characters in this film. I get the idea of what this is suppose to be but its way too slow placed and the buildup to the final moments of the pilot came out of nowhere and was more like wtf is going on? That's what the whole pilot felt like. It jumped from flashbacks to hallucinations to present day to different locations, characters ugh it was a mess. Way too much **** going on. Now I haven't watched the second episode and I'm already losing interest fast.

The characters are just I dunno cliche, there's an African kid who has a dying mother who he's struggling to take care of her, a lesbian couple, a Mexican actor, a cop who has a good heart and deals with gangs in black neighborhoods. A kid trying to live his fathers legacy and an aspiring DJ girl. Oh and a Korean girl whos a victim of sexism in her workplace but she's good at martial arts.:whatever:. All these characters have some sort of personal struggle going on. Granted thats all well and good. In fact a good link but why were they given this sense or whatever it is?

Long story short, pilot is a mess, slow paced, confusing, weird editing and there's lack of focus and a coherent story here. Cool ideas but it just didn't mesh well IMO. I get pilots set up future episodes but they should also set up the status quo of the season and go from there. This failed at that. This is for binge watching. Had this been on television, 2nd episode would lose 3/4 of the viewers from the pilot. I'm not hooked but its a 5.5/10 for me.

I've just finished watching this and I agree with everything you've said. At the moment I'm not at all that interested in watching any more episodes.

Maybe I was in a bad mood when I watched the pilot or maybe I had different expectations, but I just finished episode 3 and I'm really liking this show now. I think the acting is great now, and while the dialogue is still sometimes too on the nose the show does a good job of building suspense and hooking me. I'm really happy I gave this show a second chance after the pilot.

The finale was a bit of a letdown for me. Though hopefully this gets a 2nd season since there are a lot of questions needing to be answered.
Agreed, but I really liked the season. I hope it gets renewed. It's so ambitious.

6 episodes in and I'm loving this show. I'm really surprised how much I like all of the actors and their characters.

I feel the same way! I was hesitant after the pilot but six episodes into the show I am hooked and loving it. The acting and settings are remarkable.

And Lito... let's just say I was waiting for a Lito and Will merging and the show more than delivered. Wow.

OMG Lito.....his scenes....THAT scene....that other scene.....

Calling him handsome, sexy, gorgeous, etc all feel like understatements.

Just finished watching the season and I really, really hope we get another one. Such great characters and stories, I don't want to say goodbye to them yet.

Brian J Smith (will) was asked about THAT sequence in episode 6... Apparently, that was the first thing he filmed for the entire series. Talk about jumping straight in at the deep end!

I binged the show over the weekend and I was not let down in the least. Yes it was slow. Yes the character development was drawn out. Yes it tested my patience a couple times. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. For the first time ever I can honestly say I liked every single main character on a TV show. Couldn't even pick a favorite.

Daniella was my favorite non-sensate, though. Love her to pieces. Incredibly jealous of her time with Lito and Hernando.

And THAT scene in episode 6. UNF. I may have watched it a couple times.

It's certainly unconventionally paced and doesn't follow traditional plot and story beats. And I applaud the show for doing that. Every main character earns their development. I'm ten episodes in and I'm emotionally invested in everyone. I also think the show handles tone well. It can be bitterly sad but also inspiring.

I think Daniella could have been an unlikable character but that actress is great. I love dynamic between the three of them.

well I'm glad I didn't judge it off of the pilot, cause lord that felt like one long ass hour
but I just finished up the season, and am borderline obsessed

Bloodline gave me the same feeling in its pilot, except that never became interesting to me
if that could get a second season, I'm hopeful for this to continue

I finished the season tonight and I loved it. There were some things that held the show back a little bit, but I think making eight separate storylines compelling is a success. The finale sidelined most of the characters so I'm itching for a second season.

Some moments of greatness from the season include the "What's going on" mashup from episode 4, the birth montage, and Nomi's conversation with Lito in the museum

I have no idea how Netflix assess what shows to make sequels for.

Miguel Ángel Silvestre said the same thing which is funny because his character complained about shooting scenes out of order lol.

You know, sometimes the smallest things can resonate so well with you. That montage in episode 4 when they were all signing that 4 Non blondes song-- it really got to me. That was such a great, touching scene with a perfect song choice to drive this weird connection between these characters.

I'm 6 episodes in and I like this show, I'm weirdly interested in it. I'm growing attached to the characters.

Riley was the only Sense8 that i do not care for at all. Her entire storyline has been boring, she was emo majority of the time.

If we get a 2nd season, i hope they work on making their m mythology stronger and more interesting.

Yeah, to be honest with you I have absolutely no idea what is going on in Riley's story and her segments always stall the show for me. Everyone else has an interesting storyline otherwise.

I was wondering if I was the only one who didn't care for Riley. It was disappointing that she and Will drove the season finale and more interesting characters were sidelined.

And the mythology certainly wasn't the strongest part of the show. The Whispers/Jonas/Angelica/Yrsa thing was underdeveloped, and the idea that Sensates are basically mutants isn't all that original. Still, I didn't really care about the mythology and overarching storyline that much. I thought the show worked the best when the characters were doing their own thing, but turned to another sensate for advice or help or to learn something.

Lost fans said that it was about the characters and not about the mystery and world building. Sense8 is about characters. a 12 ep season full on character drama with a little mystery as a bonus. i am pleasantly surprised that this was not full on exposition since the Wachowski like it so much.

i also think it was very very funny.

i think Sense8 if rewatched will be even better. Netflix allowed the Wachowski siblings more than i could ever imagine. i mean the birth scenes .......holly s...

I've made it through 6 episodes and I get more invested with every one.

first 2-3 episodes are a pain to watch. noone deserves that kind of slow storytelling.

i like Sense8. i think the 12 ep story could be told in 8 episodes. i remember that the W siblings said that they liked storytelling in tv format because you get a lot of hours to develope characters. i get it they were like kids playing with new toys. but it was sooooooooooo slow.

Yeah... This show has pushed "adult content" in the TV rating more than anything. The births, the orgy, the Nomi/Amanita sex scene with, uh... fluids.

The Wachowskis/Netflix surpassed HBO on that one.

The Birthing scenes were a little much TBH. Don't think they needed to go as graphic as they did. 'Less is more' and all that....

I see people getting shot in the head and killed in violent ways in a lot television and films (including sense8). I'd rather watch the birthing scene than that. It served a good story and character purpose as well as made the audience reexamine why something like that is usually taboo on television.
