The Wachowskis' Ninja Assassin

Then on the vid he has a look on his face and the guys like you don't think he heard us?

Just saw this last night. The story is a mess, but it still holds together. A little slow to start with (after an eye popping (no pun intended) opening sequence.) but picks up in a big way with some awesome fighting.

Definitely worth an oscar nomination for best picture compared to this month's....eh hem...."other" openings.

Went to the store and tried to find the soundtrack today.

Sadly did not. :(

This OST is so impossible to find I can't even get an MP3 torrent of it anywhere. Ugh.

Any ninja movie starring a white dude isn't really a true ninja movie. It may as well be Beverly Hills Ninja.

On topic though, that fight in the bathroom is what I would envision as a fight between Spider-Man and Kingpin. Less blood though.

Scott Adkins Ninja stunk of DTV, Ninja Assassin looked much sharper and cooler.

That, and no stupid-ass Ninja armor.

If you think so. But I gladly take Ninja over NA because it's a truer interpretation of Taijutsu (not the Hollywood made up name ninjitsu) which is something you don't get in NA which is yet another ninja movie where guys are doing some weird melange of martial arts that relates in no way to what ninjas actually do.

Ninja's got good action that represents Taijuitsu pretty well and has martial artists I respect a lot like Fumio Demura in the cast. Call it DTV if you like, but a movie that gets it right wins over the pretty one that gets it wrong any day in my book.

I have the soundtrack. Even posted a few tracks on my Youtube channel.

That's your opinion, man. I liked Ninja as well, I just think Ninja Assassin is more "classy" and replay worthy. And it got Sho Kosugi. And no Video Game Ninja Armor.

It is a great action movie. I don't rely on critics forming my opinion on whether a movie is good or not.

But I heard the action scenes were shot too close and was hard to see? Is that true or not?

It's a matter of opinion. You'd probably have to watch it yourself and decide. Personally I didn't have an issue. I mean it's nothing like Transformers or Batman Begins put it like that.

Well being a martial artist does make me prefer Ninja more. As I said, I prefer a closer interpretation than a pretty looking story that's pretty off the mark. Sho Kosugi does rule and always will.

As for what you call video game ninja armor. Ninjas have always and will always be at the forefront of technology. They adapted chain mail, gunpowder soon after it was introduced and they have adapted many other modern weaponry as it came up. I have no doubt that a fully kitted out ninja now would look something like what was shown in that movie. Modern armor and weaponry.

I have no issue using modern materials, but the suits(and fight choreography) in Ninja are obviously designed more for looking cool than actual purpose. Ninja Assassin had more of a visual bite to it, and even though Ninja had some cool hand to hand, I preferred the Slice and Dice.

Really? I'm a member of the Genbukan and as I said the fighting in Ninja is for the most part taijuitsu. It's not for looking cool, it may have been shot cool, but that's the taijuitsu I and all other members of real ninja organizations do Be it Bujinkan, Genbukan or Jinekan learn.

As I stated before, NA seems a weird melange of stuff that looks cool. Heck, their fight coordinator is or was never apart of any ninja organizations, he's a kickboxer.

It's the difference between what's the actual and what looks cool and impresses those who couldn't tell one Asian martial art from another. NA's great fun, but I preferred Ninja, because it reflects actually what ninjas do.
