Ah, Pre-Crisis DC, my favorite era of comics ever. Where everyone was a bonafide god, Bouncing Boy was dangerous, and Superman on the top of his game strength and power wise.
To enunciate on the god bit, let me bring up the 60's Legion. Lighting Lad could "write" in space with his powers, and the huge, ridiculous letters could be seen for millions of miles in space. Cosmic Boy could casually move around thousands of tons of meteors. The Karate Kid, was, and still is the premiere fighter of comics. Matter Eater Lad's powers worked on the molculer level and he could even eat Inertron, among other near indestructable objects. Element Lad could transmute on a larger than planetary scale, and so on.
Not suprisingly, being the 60's, the females had lame powers. Saturn Girl's powers weren't nearly as effective as, say, The Martian Manhunter's are today. Phantom Girl became intangible. Light Lass... made things float. Shadow Lass... made things dark. Ah well. They still definitely had their uses.
Anyhow, the suspension of belief and escapism roles of comics were never stronger than most of Pre-Crisis DC... And, we always see instances of it thrown around here. From stories so out there that everyone makes fun of Superman and Batman years later, to feats that are on the tip of almost everyone's tongue most of the time. Anyhow, enjoy yourselves.

Gotta love Superman complaining about his power come down. As if yanking around planets isn't strong enough.
