The Wacky Ass Pre-Crisis DC Thread

Hahaa, okay. :D

He had braindamage. Contrary to popular belief, he wasn't a constant ******* Pre-Crisis. :D

Expect some updates to this mo'fo very soon. As in tonight soon. :)

Superman throws an alien ship... across a freaking galaxy.

A solar system is almost unconceivable... And a solar system is almost nothing compared to a galaxy. I'm not going to go into great detail about it, if you know you know and it just makes it that much more impressive.

Another thing I want to say... PC Superman, even in the 60's, worked because his base of operations was the universe. Current Superman is a lot more Earth bound, Pre-Crisis Superman was in another galaxy almost every comic, fighting some super tech savy villian or something more powerful than him. I like that though, the whole "Always something out there better/more powerful than you".

Lex was sooooo much better pre-crisis, where he got off his ass and did something to battle superman. Now, he just sits around barking orders.

Character wise, pre-crisis was just better.

Definitely. Pre-Crisis Luthor is one of my favorite villians. The whole industralist behind the scenes Lex of today just doesn't do it for me.

Hell, I love The Pre-Crisis Superman too. Always using his mind, well, usually anyhow. Not to mention an extremely consistent use of his super speed and other powers. Now a days they're simply used when it's convenient.

And for all of Superman's power Pre-Crisis, he still lost a helluva lot more than he does today. People didn't ****ing job to him back then either. Feh.

I know. I hate when people say he's too powerful. Anyone remember Mongul???

Pre-Crisis Supes actually had a BRAIN. He didnt just fight his way out of everything. And the sci-fi elements were great. The original "Death of Superman" story is tons better than the doomsday one.

That's what i like about the JLU cartoon. It mostly feels like silver age, with the sophistication of today's stories.

Mongul ****ing spanked Superman in his fist appearance. And, uh, every time after that Pre-Crisis actually. Mongul used to be smart too. Tricked The Martian Manhunter and Superman into fighting. Ever notice Jim Starlin has a thing for creating extremely powerful characters? Thanos, Drax, Mongul, some others that elude me... Oh, Adam Warlock.

Stories from the later 70's especially are extremely complicated though. I just finished reading an Adam Strange/Superman team-up, and I could barely wrap my mind around it. I consider myself pretty intelligent, but the comic is definitely from a different time. Than again, being smart was a good thing, America was trying to make every kid a minion for tommorow by making them smart. :D

Superman uses his brain (Nothing new Pre-Crisis) and admits that there are some things even he can't do. Which is mainly why I included these pictures.

Superman gives it his all and pushes The Earth.

Take into consideration this is 1978... We were already for a while at that time seeing a pretty considerably toned down Supeman. Hell, look at Majestic rearranging the solar system in his title a few years back. Sure, took him years, but a lot of comic characters of today would fit in perfect Pre-Crisis. Quasar, anyone?

Great examples, X. i mean, I just cant understand why people dont want Superman to be all powerful.

A good writer can write a powerful Superman, and still have obstacles for him to face.

It's just that everyone does "The Marvel Method" because its easier

Thanks.

And I agree with you once more. :(

Speaking of powering down, Darkseid is another example...

He went from "The Great Darkness Saga" powerful to getting his ass handed by superman constantly...

Darkseid's been all over the place. Even well into the 90's he was pretty powerful... He casually killed a being, Agogg, who thrashed Lightray and Orion. Pretty much DC's Kurse, who took apart Thor with his belt of strength and Betta Ray Bill. I think it all really went down hill in Hunter/Prey, with Doomsday utterly wrecking Darkseid. Well, the writer, Jurgens, said that Darkseid killed Doomsday, but Doomsday, you know, came back extremely quick and layed Seid' out. Ah well, not nearly as bad as Darkseid's Omega Beams being matched by Superman's heat vision or deflected by Wonder Woman's bracelets, which is complete and total ****.

Wonder Woman easily picks up The Statue of Liberty. A few pages later, she admitted she coulden't defeat a few dinosaurs. You've got to love the consistency of 60's DC sometimes. :D

Green Lantern looks over his options...

And the absolute god damned trippiest thing I have ever seen. And for all of you anti-Aquaman people who think he's useless... :p

That Aquaman/GL teamup is awesome. Actually, kinda cool to even think of that.

Wait a minute. If Superman is pushing against the ground on Earth to move it, wouldn't that technically look like he was just doing a hand-stand? If there's one thing about pre-crisis that bothered me, it was a lack of understanding of physics.

I, uh, I just post these, okay?!?!?! :D ;)

If you want to take into consideration the Superman of today, he uses a form of TK to keep massive things together when he's moving them.

Gah, enough with the covers! Especially if they're going to be so small.

Great thread X there is some classic stuff in here.

I love pre-crisis Superman but I like Golden age more. I wish Superman would have stayed like that but give him heat vision and flying instead of jumping. I mean Golden Age Supes was just the man; I mean if it wasn't for the gov stepping in it would have been great to see where his stories would have gone. As well as The Batman Golden Age Batman and Superman put together would have been great. I mean if some of you have read their stories you would know what I am talking about.
