the one we saw in the cage fight bar scene in the first movie. that is by far the best wolverine we got in the movies, it was perfect, the cage fight. the crew on this film needs to watch that part over and over and pretty much forget the rest of the X movies.

That's pretty much exactly how I feel. Wolverine in Canada was perfect.

I'm kind of partial to the Wolverine during the mansion attach in x-men 2.

That one was good too but I hope we get to see the berserker rage in the next one. Show why he's so afraid of himself. Maybe Sabretooth can drive him to that point.

I like the cage fight in the first movie but honestly when I first saw it I did not think it presented wolverine accurately, however after the rest of the movies...it is one of the better examples.

The problem with the cage fight I have is that we see Wolverine who seems to be recovering from previous battles and only engages the battle after he has been attacked and uses the impact from his adamantium laced bones to defeat his opponent, this shows restraint and does not say anything about his superior fighting ability.

In X2 when he leaps from the balcony at the soldiers below I thought "now thats wolverine!". For the rest of the mansion fight though he just uses hit and run tactics and may as well just be a guy with knives. There's no attempt to make him appear more agile, he could never takes out a small group of soliers using guns head on, therefore we get a waterdowned version of the mansion fight, this time in the woods in X3.

The bar fight was him trying to make it seem fair. Like he was taking a beating. It lets people believe that there is some possibility he will lose and it's how you get people to bet more money. Watch "Snatch". That said, he could have made the fight more believable by NOT beating his opponent in 3 moves. :p

And I liked the mansion fight but it was showcasing the stealthy part of Wolverine's fighting ability. I don't think he wanted to risk hurting the kids. It was a school full of hostages.

I think the one bit that really got to me was with the one soldier in the kitchen. He's defending himself (and Bobby) and then the claws come out and STAB!!! with that loud primal yell. Man...I hope to see a few more of those moments.

I agree 100%. Make him a foot shorter and THERE is Wolverine. He begins his slow transition into Cyclops about five minutes later and it lasts all 3 movies.

I think that's one of the cheesiest moments in the X-Men movies. His arms are spread out like he's flying and the wirework is so lame. You want Wolverine to go berserk? Good, me too. I just don't think Jackman or Singer's lame wirework can pull it off.

I don't think the height is a big problem. Ideally, we could have had a shorter Wolvie; but it isn't one of the really important details IMO.

I liked the Mansion fights, too. I love where he stabs the guy in the chest and where he leaps off the balcony (I don't care what you say about the wirework, I thought it was cool :oldrazz: ), and where he walks toward the gunmen yelling "If you're gonna shoot me then SHOOT ME!"

well a Wolverine is a creature that's known for being ferocious despite it's very small size.

That's a plausible explanation, because at first I was thinking, here's a guy who is probably the best mixed martial artist in the world and he's getting his ass handed to him.

Smaller or not, that ripped vainy bastard was the Wolverine. He truly looked feral in this one. The next movies he concentraited on getting big but forgot to trim off even more fat. I mean there he looks like someone that barely lives on anything. In the newer ones he just looked like he hit the gym a lot.

God, I love that scene...

I remember watching it with the commentary track on, and they explained that they filmed the cage match scene towards the end because Hugh had been cast late (he replaced Dougray Scott, as you know) and hadn't had the time to work out with the trainer to look like...well, that. :oldrazz:

And as a guy perfectly comfortable with his heterosexuality I say goddamn and cudos to the man. See it's not size that matters but the tone. That is some damn good tone right there and that is what Wolverine should look like...I'm-I'm hitting the gym.

To me, everything is right in that scene. I remember when I first saw it in theaters and thinking that they even got the hair right without it being over-the-top and silly looking.
