I know this is the "reality" era, but just think about how big a surprise like this could be?
Even without the internet, there were fans in the 90s who knew when certain guys were wrestling their last match in a company, so you can't really stop that now, but (like someone mentioned earlier) I see why WWE would handle this like Marvel would.
I was the one who said that if the WWE was only "in negotiations" with the four, they would have gone the Marvel route and said nothing and then cited the Sting, Dudley Boys, Del Rio and Samoa Joe rumors as examples of the WWE not saying anything until they actually appeared in the WWE. Marvel has said nothing about Ryan Coogler, Cate Blanchett or even Marisa Tomei. They haven't even confirmed the Thor: Ragnarok director.
also, it's not like the WWE hasn't surprised us recently. As I remember it, there were rumors in Early 2015 that stated "The WWE has no interest in the Dudley Boyz" so when they returned to the WWE, I think it surprised everyone.
