Sci-Fi The X-Files - 6 Part Event Series

While i realize this is not the proper place for this, I'm not allowed to open a new thread (even though its the one reason i created an account here, but here goes).

I started binging the X-files from the pilot the other day (currently at the middle of season 2). However, I am supremely bothered that unlike what my idealistic childhood memories conveyed, Mulder is probably the most inept agent to ever live, plus he's a complete *****.
I'm not saying that he should have Jack Bauer-esque badassary, but the man has no balls whatsoever which, coupled with his lack of professionalism, leads to a repeating scenario. Every possible witness manages to bail because Mulder screams at him from miles away "FEDERAL AGENT", chases him for a bit, gets hit by something and loses him. Every possible wuss gets the upper hand in a physical exchange with Mulder because the FBI agent doesnt have the heart (or possibly the common sense) to kneecap them, or at least to shoot in his general direction. Every possible lead is glossed over because he's busy answering phonecalls in a womany trembling voice. And every fraking time he is by some miracle (aka the scriptwriter's will) on the verge of something interesting his idiocy manages to mock it up.
All in all, the guy is such a colossal twit it is only by the grace of the seven gods that anything at all happens to him. In the real world a talentless hack like that would be pushing papers in the evidence lockup and be grateful for to opportunity.

SO basically I wanted to ask if there is any chance at all of this getting better in the coming seasons. I am all for the moral highground the character is supposed to portray, and I doubt that part will get removed, but is he about to get his **** together or will he remain a fish flailing about at the current's whim?

TL;DR: Will Mulder grow balls after season 2 ep. 9 or will he remain a powerless imbecile?

Thanks a lot in advance to anyone taking the time to help me out!

You know that FBI agents have to clearly announce they are an agent, right? And that they cant just "kneecap" someone. This show isnt about a couple of rogue badass FBI agents who are above procedure and answer to no one. They have bosses, procedures, rules, and laws to abide by, and they cant just "kneecap" people. Their suspects have rights.

Maybe you should just find another show.

If the current six part series is a huge hit like I hear it is, then in all probability Duchovny and Anderson will continue with making another series . . . but of they decide that they are finished I am wondering how many of you would be happy to see a continuation with Miller and Einstein?

Maybe Mulder and (or) Scully could serve as the coordinators of the X-Files program?

"They've been in motion since 2012."

I guess that answers the question some had about that thread in the premiere.

damn, when did Mulder become such an ass-kicker?... LOL

damn, there'd BETTER be an eleventh season after tonight's episode... that was insane... and a great episode...

LOL, as I figured, they were clearly always planning for more.

Gotta say I hate the O'Malley stuff, though. I just can't take McHale seriously, so whenever he appears all this serious business suddenly seems like parody.

Stupid cliffhangers. But goddamn, what a hell of a cliffhanger to leave us with.

Damn what a cliffhanger! Excellent episode. It was very intense at the end and ended in classic Xfiles fashion.

Obviously this has been set up to go on a long run from day 1. There are so many things they could revisit if the show goes all the way. Black oil, Bounty hunters, super soldiers, etc. This is being treated like a proper franchise finally so I expect them to go all out moving forward.

Didnt end up hating Miller and Einstein like I originally thought I would. They are now knee deep in this and if they stay as complimentary characters then this may be ok. Id like Einsteins insane mood to be toned down. Skinner needs more screen time. Reyes was interesting to see again.

But something is clear to me today:

The Xfiles fandom is massive. Take all the old school fans and add the legions of fans that learned of the show through the internet and netflix and you have a big fanbase. Fox I think has treated this like a proper franchise and its paid off big for them. Kudos to the guys running the network and many thanks for reviving this classic show.

I actually think McHale's done a decent job, but yeah, this role hasn't been enough of a Bryan Cranston-esque turn from comedy to drama for me to take him entirely seriously.

CSM looked like he stepped straight out of The Strain. Dat nose/lack thereof.

Freaking cliffhangers. Though, it is nice to have a nice X-files cliffhanger again.

Outside of the finale being messy and rushed like the premier... is was solid, with all of the CSM stuff, Mulder being a badass, Scully ~saving the world, and that cliffhanger.

What if its aliens wanting to save Mulder to take out CSM's misconstrued end-game of their plans... instead of maybe the government swooping in on their alien replica UFO to take out The X-Files once and for all?

I do think the 6 episodes should have been 1-2,6 spread out with room to breath -or- we should have had all monster of the week episodes with maybe the last being sort of like what we got but merely a teaser for a future season/film of CSM's plan.

This was supposed to be 2 hrs right? My DVR only recorded the first hour. :argh: Or is it just one hour?

Yeah, it felt like it should've been two hours. That cliffhanger was painful. The Spartan Virus story seemed so rushed with its flow.

I liked this episode, but it was the weakest, imo.

Honestly, I feel like all of Carter's episodes have been the weakest of this mini-series.

My faves were easily the Were-Monster (instant classic, imo) and trash man eps.

no, you DIDN'T get screwed... it WAS only one hour...

Oh wow... I mean there are good cliffhangers and all but this one just left everything unresolved. It definitely felt like it could use at least 30 more minutes to fleshen things out. I like how big the scope was and then to just "end" it like that was disappointing.

Decent finale, the scenes with Mulder and the Cancer Man were good and the final shot was cool.

i like this season. a good enough ending.
the cliffhanger doesnt work because we know that Mulder and Scully will not die. they are not in danger. I also dont expect a lot of people to die around the world. This is still a tv show on FOX which means that they will have to find a way for status quo and have monster of the week episodes. So the xfiles at the FBI

i like that the last episode sets up the story for the next season. finding their son. Who can save Mulder and maybe everyone else.
I just hope that their son is not in that alien ship. :oldrazz:

Worst episode of the season for me. The dialogue felt really clunky and the way they portrayed the whole incident was very poorly done. If this is a global event, there would 100% be mainstream media coverage. They only ever showed a single hospital room full of people and the only time we ever get to see the chaos outside was on the bridge. For such a big thing it just seemed very small.

I really liked the season, but was very disappointed with the finale. Here's my full review:
