Apocalypse There will be Fireworks! Lana Condor as Jubilee

Sorry to say this, but I don't get why Jubilee is in this.

She's not even the most powerful X-men. In fact, she can be considered as one of the weakest.

Her powers is quite lame. Fireworks, really?

She's not even an Omega-level mutant. I think she may have trouble in battle scenes and may even require her teammates to rescue her.

I don't know what Jubilee can bring to the table.

She was introduced in the eighties (1989, to be exact), has name recognition, and adds diversity (being that she is Asian). Not to mention she has a pretty visually neat power display for film. It was a bit out of left field, particularly because she was portrayed as a teenager in the original trilogy, but I can see why.

Honestly, Jubilee always had potential to be a very powerful mutant. If I recall, she has the capability of making thermal nuclear explosions, or something that's similar to that power wise.

Via her Wikipedia page:
Jubilee had the mutant power to generate bright bursts of multi-colored energy plasmoids from her fingertips. She referred to these globules as "fireworks". The globules obeyed her mental control, traveling where she directed them, arranging themselves in balls, streamers, and other shapes, and exploding when she wished. The strength of the energy varies in degrees of power and intensity, and could range from a multitude of colorful sparkles capable of temporarily blinding a person to a powerful detonation capable of smashing objects and destroying property, or a precision burst inside a human brain, simulating the effects of a massive stroke. Jubilee could absorb the fireworks back into her own body without harm. Jubilee often referred to her powers as "pafs." "Paf" appears in many instances as onomatopoeia for her powers.

While training in Generation X, Emma Frost described Jubilee as having the untapped potential to detonate matter at a sub-atomic level, which in theory is the equivalent of a fusion bomb.

Now that sounds pretty freakin cool to me.

Yeah, but she was always potrayed as rather weak in the cartoon series.

At least, that's what I gathered from watch "X Men: the animated series"

And information from Wikipedia can always be changed and made up by anyone else.

They even got her powers wrong in the X men movies. In a deleted scene from X2, her powers is electricity. What??

As for the diversity thing, it is quite laughable.

When I was watching X Men: the animated series from the 90s, you can never tell that Jubilee is actually asian.

She is drawn to look like a caucasian, like all the female X-men characters in the cartoon series.

And her voice-over in that cartoon show doesn't sound like an asian too.

She's the most popular X-Woman after Storm, Jean, Rogue, Psylocke, Emma and Kitty.

Well when you put it like that, her popularity doesn't sound all that impressive.

Just because Jubilee has been underutilised in comics and cartoons doesnt mean she will be in this. Her powers are far more destructive than a lot of X-Men so it will be good to see how Singer uses them.

In my opinion, Jubilee has always been one of the most underrated characters, mainly because even though TAS gave her popularity, it also portrayed her as an occasional annoying teenager with underdeveloped powers. Besides the previous post I made about her mutant abilities, Jubilee was also an accomplished gymnast, learned street fighting skills from her time in jail and by Wolverine, and even showed strong leadership skills in Generation X. I also seem to recall she was a pretty good hacker/showed computer knowledge.

I will say the only bad thing going for her is her real name. Seriously, what type of parents name their kid "Jubilation"?! :o :p

She probably wont be too fleshed out in this movie, but I can foresee something similar to Angel's role in First Class, and I think she will have some impressive power displays.

Asian ones.

And is that supposed to be a bad thing? You bring someone like Polaris and Dazzler and I'm sure you would get more "Who?" response from the public rather than Jubilee. Jubilee is one of the most popular additions to the X-Men in the 90s. She also appeared in TAS, X-Men Evolution, X-Men Legends and in Capcom videogames. From the looks of what Bryan Singer is doing with this film is he wants to redo the characters who appeared in the previous films that didn't get to do much or appear in multiple films like Jubilee, Nightcrawler, Angel and probably Psylocke too, if she's in the film.

Are you guys sure the "mall set" is for a "mall scene" ? Is Jubilee even in the 80s timeline?

As for the diversity thing, it is quite laughable.

I grew up on that cartoon and always understood she was Asian-American. I also got Storm was African, Rogue Southern, and Gambit had French roots. I don't think they failed the characterization that bad.

Well, you're not the first to mention that. She's a sassy, cute girl with flashy powers in a movie about the "survival of the fittest"... Maybe she's not meant to be in this for long.

I assume they need a mall location otherwise they wouldn't need to build the set there and

And it seems likely that jubilee is in the 80s timeline

Honestly I have feeling that fx team/Singer show case her power's similar to Boom Boom. When they explode it'll make a fireworks sound. We all know there has been a fire type mutant in the X films and I think she'll be the one.
Buts interesting that her, Storm, Nightcrawler & Cyclops are all orphans/adopted so that should bring them closer in terms of development.

Lol. That is genuinely funny to me. I just recall the IGN comments section in the article about her announcement and there was a guy practically frothing at the mouth about how she wasn't "white like the cartoon" and he kept mentioning how he's watching that episode and doesn't see an Asian Jubilee.
