 ......

has anyone noticed how a while ago the gieco commercials had a bad cgi gekko....and how discovery channel had horrible cgi dinosaurs....and how almost no show had good fx...

BUT NOW woah!....the gekko commercials has the best looking cgi charcter ever....the dinosaurs in the discovery channel i saw yesterday were:eek: (better than spielbergs)....and now smallville has somewhat better graphics..

my question is...... why not make a good show with those kind of fx?..why waste it on gieco and dinosaurs?:(

But y'see, there's different ways to do special effects. Some are blatant and in your face, a la Geiko. Some are more subtle and done so well you don't realize how difficult and expensive the shot is.

Comparing Jurrasic Park to today's Discovery Channel graphics is not exactly fair to do, seeing as how JP was done AGES ago compared to DC's in technology years.

Take a look at a show like Lost or Alias.

Alias had special effects all over the place. The way they made LA look like anywhere and everywhere around the world took tons of effect $ and effort. It was done so well that you didn't even realize that half of what you were watching wasn't actually there.

With Lost, hell, just look at the plane crash scene. The first episode of Lost is the single most expensive hour of primetime TV for a show ever.

CGI with stuff like talking lizards and giant dinosaurs stick out to you because we KNOW that is an effect shot the moment we see it, cause lizards don't actually talk and dinosaurs aren't still living. But you'd be suprised if you look around TV shows of today and realize just how much $, time, and effort is going in to make the shows what they are today.

I can't imagine what they'll be like in 10 years!

i also meant JP3

and alias and lost have graphics as good as smallville which is ok ....but still not anywhere near as good as discovery channels...

and usually those dinosaur episodes are like 2 hrs long!!..and its constant cgi.

they should start doing the best they could and not give us some crap fx like that made for tv movie called locusts with XENA

I think its funny how Jp's dino's were so amazing looking and King Kong's dinos looked like absolute crap. Im talking about JP one it looked better than KK.

Nobody has even come close to the realism of JP.

Also, with Geico, DC, and Smallville, they start how ok and get better because they gain fame. Once the dino shows and Smallville get good ratings they get bigger budgets, basic economics. With Geico, the commercials are obviously doing what they're suppose to (get more business)
