They've Come for the Porn

Stay strong in the UK , don't let the censors win.

No Porn , no peace!

I was ready to get all indignant, then I noticed that it only applies to the UK. American porn is safe.

Is this the part where people from other countries pile on and ridicule the UK for their puritanical, backwards attitudes towards sex? Or does that only apply to the US, where porn flows freely across the Internets by Supreme Court decree?

Guessing the UK has no idea what a Republican or Libertarian is.

Republican -- For small govt, but is actual slightly less big Govt than Democrats.

Libertarian - For small govt and means it, but is someone who is never invited to the cool parties, see example: Nintendo since the Wii came out.

Over my dead body.

Oh wait. England? Carry on.

what is the whole point of internet in 2013?

everything for everyone for free :lmao:

Wait, porn being outlawed in England? On England TV isn't there a lot more nudity than in the states? Really, really odd.

Libertarian - Hipsters that think they are too cool to be labeled "republican" or "democrat" but really don't realize that their policies aren't realistic in running a nation.

As far as the article - porn isn't being taken away. There are just being blocks put on - that the customer can deactivate - to prevent children from being able to access porn by default.

But basically, if you're a creepy virgin perv, like most of us here on this site, myself included, you can turn that block off and get all the porn you want. As long as it's not rape porn.

MY GOD SIR, YOU SUNK MY BATTLE SHIP! OUCH OUCH, LOW BLOW. :wow:

So they're really going to waste money doing this? really? Everyone blow it off now, but just wait, America won't be far behind with something to top this.
I'm looking at you, FCC.

The law states that the want Internet service providers to automatically block, any form extreme or violent or general porn. The person has to actually call they're provider and ask for the block to be turned off.

and it will carry a jail sentence if caught using any site that has videos of violent porn or simulated rape.

This to me is a slippery slope, they have already said if successful they will move on to other adult based content with extreme violent or political views.

Slippery slope? Definitely. It's a red flag to be sure.

But I don't think I can really say I have a problem with them making things like rape porn inaccessible.

And is having to call your internet provider to turn off the porn block really any different than the way our cable TV is here in America? Porn doesn't come standard on TV services, you have to specifically order it.

It's depiction of rape that they want to ban and not simply actual rape, right?

In that case, wouldn't the original Evil Dead count?

Or how about Stephen King's Apt Pupil?

Exactly, what about the simulated rape scenes in Rob Roy or What's Love Got to Do with It. You don't see the penetration shots but they still are violent depictions of simulated rape, are they not?

As a kid before the internet we were able to get access to porn, kids find a way, uncles, friends older brothers, dads secret stash, a friends dad secret stash. This is ridiculous, when we were kids the mainstream video store had a porn sections behind drapes. That only ended because people liked getting it online in the privacy of their homes instead of the girl at the counter judging you for renting it. You ban something it only intensifies adults and children to seek it out more. The internet is a great way for young people to educate themselves about sex that have prude or non communicative families or even a cultures faux pas (foh pah). the internet has helped a lot of gays in accepting who they are by communicating with those that are there to help, young girls and boys to accept their sexual orientation with others supporting them where they couldn't otherwise communicate with others because of their anti-gay communities they live in. I pretty sure such sites that offer sex advice and support for confused teens will be banned too.

Let's bring in arbitrary laws in order to make criminals out of people that weren't criminals before, for a victimless crime, under the guise of protecting children!!

Wasn't there a study done that pedophiles and rapists use the internet to exercise out those impulses by watching porn online than taking those urges out on their victims. Now without the internet porn they'll seek out human victims to release those urges out on. Protect those women and children everyone here they come to exercise their urges!

Isn't it a good thing to catch pedophiles online before they act out on their victims or know who they are by their browsing history to arrest them? Now it will be harder to find them! Wow those British politicians are idiots!

I agree with this one comment from the bbc.co.uk website.
Surely the responsibility to protect children from pornography lies with the parents?

Why not just introduce a simple opt-OUT system?

Naw that would be intelligent!

You shouldn't have to that's the point. You already pay for the service so who can say how you use it.

Porn ppt on cable is separate as its an extra service run by a separate company from your cable provider.

Take for example how it was in my school they obviously had a blocker on but it went by words not content, anything to do with the city middlesex was completely blocked.

It's censorship plain and simple it's a blanket statement that the government can use to censor anything they deem damaging.

And anyway it shouldn't be down to the government or the Internet providers it should be the damn parents actually doing they're jobs and raising they're own kids.

This is what a lot are kicking up about, where is the line going to be crossed. If this goes ahead and they move onto other violent media which most are predicting will happen., am I a 30 year old man going to have to call my provider and explain I want to watch a film like robocop which is rated 18(R) because it will be blocked I'm case kids see it.

Look I'm not naive I understand that children have a hell of a lot more easy access to really hardcore material than we ever did, he'll I joked with my cousin that his generation will never know the funny aspect of a mate brining a dirty mag into a school. But a simple blanket ban and accusations of everyone against is a pedo or rapist( that's the defence some supporters are using) is moronic.

Republican -- Against big government when it comes to regulating businesses and safeguarding civil rights, but for big government when it comes to regulating marriage, sexuality, access to contraceptives and women's bodies.

Libertarian - For small govt and means it, but is someone who is never invited to the cool parties, see example: Nintendo since the Wii came out.

Fixed that for you. :yay:

How exactly is this filter going to work? I've used porn filters before and to say they are don't always get is right is an understatement. I've been blocked from perfectly fine websites on occasion simply because for whatever reason something on the website triggered the stop sign. And all those people who look for illegal stuff will just use peer to peer services, how exactly will this stop anything?
