Things You Don't Understand Thread

I saw this today, and I think I'm finally an old man yelling at the youth culture. Not only do I not understand it, but it drives me into a rage.

Is It Time To Let Moviegoers Send Texts During A Film?: CinemaCon
“I’m concerned that the moviegoing experience isn’t just for baby boomers.” Regal Entertainment CEO Amy Miles says that her chain currently discourages cell phone use “but if we had a movie that appealed to a younger demographic, we could test some of these concepts.” For example, she says the chain talked about being more flexible about cell phone use at some screens that showed 21 Jump Street. “You’re trying to figure out if there’s something you can offer in the theater that I would not find appealing but my 18-year-old son” might. IMAX’s Greg Foster seemed to like the idea of relaxing the absolute ban on phone use in theaters. His 17-year-old son “constantly has his phone with him,” he says. “We want them to pay $12 to $14 to come into an auditorium and watch a movie. But they’ve become accustomed to controlling their own existence.” Banning cell phone use may make them “feel a little handcuffed.”

I'm 23 and I'd feel like yelling too, Lighthouse. If someone can't put their phone aside for 2hrs and 45 minutes tops, then they're too damn clingy.

This is the most crazy thing I've read all week :awesome:

I don't understand  This does not happen to your bandanad people when they walk into McDonalds? Gangs of ties laughing and chasing? This happens in my town, life is not for movies, life is for people, these people think they can turn my town into a movie, I chase them! They no turn my town into upside down nonsense way of living! I grab bin fromMcDonalds and crash it into their shirts! See how far your tie swings when it got me and bins as weapons!

I don't understand thebumwhowalks' anti-tiemetic rhetoric.

Why learning to drive has to be so difficult here.

Buy CD to do theory test 25
Apply for theory 40

I went to the motor tax office in my city, but I'm told I have to go to the other side of the city to the other tax office, even tough I live further away from it.

Paid 15 for my learning permit.

Now a new law has come in where you have to complete 12 lessons.

I called a driving instructor who never got back to me.

Called another instructor.

So, that's 300 for 12 lessons, meaning I have to wait 3 weeks to save for it.

24, and still never bothered trying, pretty much for that reason.

Plus all the expense of actually owning, running and maintaining a car :(

I have a subtitled movie on in the background that i am taping off tv, and a subtitle just came up that said 'Hamsters?', so that reminded me of something i don't understand...and I was thinking about this the other day as well when watching a film, and the character only got one hamster...why do people just buy one wee pet..hamsters, mice, budgies, any kind of small bird, and keep them in a cage alone? Isn't that really cruel? Can't they get two so they will have a wee pal?

and yes, i know that hamsters can just start banging each other and then you will suddenly have fifty hamsters, and then they will start doing the same thing, and then next thing you know you're emptying a sack full of two hundred and fifty hamsters into the local park..but can't they buy same sex hamsters/mice/birds?
Frickin buy them a wee pal ya b*stards.

Hamsters can be highly territorial and will fight, especially if their wee pal is of the same sex. Other rodents might do the same, though hamsters are more vicious than mice, rats or gerbils. Birds will ignore their human flock members if there's another bird to socialize with (or a mirror, birds can be pretty dumb or possibly narcissistic).

Super "Animal Man" Ferret FTW.

I don't understand the celebration of ignorance that America is sliding into. Makes no goddamn sense to me whatsoever.

Why more brothas have been getting dreads in the past few years.

Certain women's taste in men.

Because certain candidates of a certain political spectrum pander to the ignorant rednecks by vilifying the "elitist intellectuals".

I don't regard "elitist" as a negative term. It's not my fault if some Americans feel threatened by people who can speak full sentences with proper grammar and words with more than one syllable and have an appreciation of finer culture and an awareness of the world around them.

Elitist is a negative term, it's just that most people aren't elitists.

And most people don't use proper grammar.

That's exactly my problem. Being really smart is more and more becoming a bad thing in America. It's ridiculous.

Ok, so hamsters are dangerous to pair up, thanks for the info, so I guess mice, gerbils, and perhaps guinea pigs? can be put together, I recall seeing some guinea pigs put together in a bunch on some doc, and they were fine together.
I didn't know that about birds either, I think it is incredibly cruel to keep any kind of bird in a cage anyway.

People's love for Stanley Kubrick.

Youngsters who :
- wear oversized cap 10cm above their heads.
- wear their pants 1 meter below their waist and walk like pinguins.
- wear Top Gun sun glasses at night or when there is no sun at all
- keep the trademark tag on their shoes.

People who think Scientology is a religion and not a world wide scam.

There is something to be admired about someone who can do all of those things at once, and walk down the street without their hat falling off, their trouserss falling down, or bumping into anything. It is like a personal obstacle course.

The idea that "real Americans" act like Larry the Cable Guy is horrifying.

If that's what "the people" are supposed to be like, then proudly sign me up as one of those evil elitists. :whatever:

Hang on a minute though, I dunno, let me think, isn't it, yeah, maybe, not sure, I think, don't you have to actually be smart to sign up for the evil elitists?

Sorry if I'm not going to take a jab at my intelligence very seriously coming from you.
