This is a touchy subject...

Black Entertainment Television....IS THE WORST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE! - MLK, The Return of the King

:D

Funniest thing I ever saw was when I saw an interview with the creator of BET and he was complaining how a black man can't enter a jewlery shop with jeans on without being eyed. And I was like, HAHA your frickin network promotes black people being gansters and pushes the stereotypes farther than anyone else... God damn hypocrite, but awesome job at making ****-loads of money

But in all fairness, BET wasn't always the Booty En Thug network.

Oh, I know. I just think they could have done so much more by now.

The only way that's gonna happen is if we demand it of them. As much as I like to look at the guns of Toccarra Jones, Keyshia Cole & Esther Baxter, there are better things they can do with their airtime. But they show the things that they show for one simple reason; because black people watch it.

One thing Ill say is the Wayans Brothers are far funnier in sketch comedy than in films. As for White Chicks only the beginning when they posed as hispanics in the store really was funny imo.

Otherwise i think their giving their all for award for dumbest films of all time.

Hold on, I'm gonna need a moment. . . .

Damn. In the beginning of "Big Mama's House", Martin posed as an Asian. There was just no originality to that movie at all, huh?

My white trash brother-in-law and his equally white trash his cousin both call each other "*****",and think that they're badass gangta's.What's funny is that they don't care for black people that much, yet have embraced the worst part of their culture.

How is that surprising? I've seen it numerous times.
It's no stranger than someone who hates me based on my appearance, but will risk skin cancer to get a darker tone, get collagen injected into their lips, & get butt & hip implants.

We do get darker, but most of us don't burn.

Just for clarification;
I'm roughly Kadeem Hardison's complexion. I joined the Marines, where I did Boot Camp in San Diego. After 3 months there, I came back Wesley Snipes' color.

Y'know how the first people were Africans, the climate there is why they're black.

Well I understand the situation, hollywood is messed up for any minority. It took Denzel to go crooked before he could win an oscar. Halle had to go semi pron actress just to get hers *monster ball*....its messed up, yet I think that there has to be other ways to earn the respect needed.

hollywood is so fake.

We don't respect ourselves, though. That's why Hollywood doesn't respect us. Come on. Our culture has the most misogynistic form of music in existence. Not only does a large percentage of rap have lyrics that degrade women, nevermind the quasi-nudity that seems almost mandatory in rap videos. We don't even take women seriously as rappers unless they portray themselves as butch or ****ty. So some movie producer or studio exec sees this & only this, what's he gonna give us?

I think mainstream hip hop is terrible. However, underground hip hop is really good.

It's weird however, that my friend went to an underground show (I couldn't go due to work), and everyone there was everyting but black. When he told me that, I was like "WHY?".

What sucks is that it makes mainstream black people look 'close minded'. Not trying to offend, but when he first went to the show, that was his immediate reaction on why there were lack of black people. Is is because some black people view underground as a 'white thing'? I hope that's not the case.

I really think that SOME blacks need to cool down the race card. Sometimes, they'll bring it up for no reason.

I've known a guy who was like "There were no black people in Lord of the Rings". I just sighed and reply "Because they were no black people in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." He was a co-worker and I didnt know too well, but he was half serious half joking.

I know quite of black people who just don't care about races, which is the way everyone should think. But I knew some who do.

Don't think "Why isn't there a black person in that movie." Hell, I'm Asian and we get the worse end of the Hollywood stick, but I'm not complaining. I don't go watch a movie because of the minorities or whatever: I go because it looks interesting.

Little bit off-topic, Octoberist, but I'm in the process of developing a comic. And while it in no way is meant to be PC or stereotype-sensitive, I did make a point of including a couple of Asian characters who know absolutely nothing about computers or martial arts.

I still like some of the mainstream stuff around...The Roots, Jean Grae, Erykah Badu, Dilated Peoples, Kanye, heck, even Talib Kweli

I think the potentials still around...Procussions, etc

nice! Do you have an offical website? Good luck on your venture. Honestly, it sounds exciting.

To me, it's cool to have a divesity as long as it's not forced. In all honestly, I give props to the Matrix movies (as much as I don't like them) for giving minorites good roles without making the audience think about it.

No website yet, but I will let you know.
I don't force the diversity. But if the character sounds Hispanic in my head, that's what I make them. If they sound black, white, what have you...I go where my inspiration takes me.

To me, The Roots and Dilated Peoples are stil underground. Or at least, they don't have that "Dirty south" BS that's big now in the mainstream.

I respect them because they're geniune. It's from the heart. It's real.

Being a thug is not a great thing in rea life, but some rappers promote it instead of dismantling it. The old school rappers looked down on it, but now the young kids embrace it? What's there to embrace if you're struggling to make money, etc? It's not a sub-culture but porverty.
