This film has just made more money. I feel sorry for Raimi and SM4 in general, as Sony I think has officially ruined the series by not having confidence in the man that got them billions of dollars in revenue. But, whatever. At least this production seems to be going in the right direction, and just keeps coasting along. This film should be great, and now it should be a big money maker

Yea. I'm not even a big Superman fan. But the idea of a new Superman film with todays SFX had my mouth watering. And what did we get...?

Superman catching a car with shot brakes. Catching a plane. And lifting a Kryptonite mountain.

Yeah, that and Superman stalking/spying on Lois Lane, and Clark Kent swigging a brewski proved the production team had no idea how to make a Superman movie...

It's almost like big brother Spidey is looking out for the Thor franchise. Between Spidey and Thor, that May 6th spot is locked up. Spidey can bully anyone out of any date later in the year. Giving Thor a clear lead and a great spot to generate box office. I know Sony doesn't give a crap about Disney/Marvel but it's working out that way anyway! Great news for Thor!

There's no doubt that Thor will be ten times better than Superman Returns. That's not even a hard task to accomplish given that SR was a dull rehash film.

Comic films tend to make most of their money on their opening weekends, don't they?

Most blockbuster franchises in general are very front loaded but tend to drop massively the following week, only a hand full have legs.

There's no doubt that Thor will be ten times better than Superman Returns. That's not even a hard task to accomplish given that SR was a dull rehash film.

You severely overestimate fanboy influence. There were a lot of fanboy gripes but SM3 was favorably received overall. Hell, I'm a fanboy who enjoyed SM3 even though it was overcrowded and should've been a better film. Also, general audiences know nothing about script problems concerning SM4. The Spider-Franchise is still the big boy on the block. If dumb scripts and poor reviews effected certain franchises then Pirates and Transformers would be dead in the water instead of planning more flicks. SM3 had it's problems but it was an intellectual gem compared to the last Pirates CGI fiasco. Spidey is still strong and there's no way any other studios want to mess with it or take it on. Marvel is rolling the dice but I don't think anyone else will chance the May 6th slot. I wonder if the WB/Green Lantern has the balls to try it? Talk about the ultimate Marvel VS DC war. Thor VS GL?!?

That would be an interesting showdown, it's unlikely to happen due to the massive amount of post production needed for GL but I think WB would have the balls to do it, based on the recent success of Sci-fi films and on the back of Ryan Reynolds name.

as i said myself i hope sm4 can get back on better track and when it happens it is a good film. But since we are here for thor i hope it will do well with getting the prime may start.

Marvel has protected Thor by holding the May 20th with POTC. If Disney is desperate they can fast track POTC4, or push it back to 2012. I doubt Sony wants July. The only way they make May is if Sargeant turns in a brilliant rewrite, because they need to be filming awfully soon to make that date. I think they are better off taking on the Hobbit in the winter season. 2012 is booked with Avengers, Wolverine 2, and likely BB3.

I really don't get the obsession studios have with this time period for blockbusters, I mean Christmas time is basically filled with nothing more than Oscar baited films, look at Avatar for crying out load, no competition and it makes a billion. Baffling. 2011 something is gonna crash and burn in that ridiculously congested period, shear law of averages says it will.

Why is there so few big tent pole's in the winter? Kids are off school, the weather is crap outside. What better way to spend the day than go to the cinema?

In the summer the weather's nice. Personally, when it's hot outside, the last thing I wanna do is be cooped up inside a cinema. I wanna be out down the park or if I was a kid at a 6 Flags or Alton Towers or whatever.

Latest Sony updates have them pushing for a March start. Malcovich is on board. They can still make that date. They have a full month and change to nail down a story. If Sony doesn't want a winter release, they need to make May or otherwise start from scratch if they take another year. Reminds me X-3's production. This is a deadline Sony can NOT afford to miss.

None of that is new, they continue to say they'd like to make that date. They won't, though, not with production put on standstill and the vfx people told to find other work
