'Thor: Ragnarok' has biggest Marvel opening day of 2017 in PH
The newest "Thor" film is proving to be a worthy inclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at least for Filipino fans.
The God of Thunder's third outing made P38.5 million in the local box office -- the best opening day gross for any Marvel Studios' offering this year so far, beating "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2".
It's also the fourth biggest opening of the year overall, behind only "Beauty and the Beast," "Wonder Woman," and "Fast & Furious 8."
The revised estimated for Thor: Ragnarok is in the $125M vicinity this morning on industry tracking.
I knew it. I knew that those revised estimates/projections would go up.The revised estimated for Thor: Ragnarok is in the $125M vicinity this morning on industry tracking. As we always footnote, such projections this far out can go up or down.
Great stat! There has been a decent improvement and that's always good. For what it's worth, indicators for 1st day in France :
Thor - 149.381 tickets
Thor The Dark World - 204.882 tickets
Thor Ragnarok - 223.148 tickets
holy cow......thats pretty awesome. I don't wanna get too excited, but would love it if it gets to $150M (or even more).
I really don't know. It has to be at least UK, Ireland and Taiwan. If i am not mistaken those where the only countries to get the movie released on Tuesday. The thing is, i don't know if that number is also counting Wednesday results as well because a few more countries also opened up yesterday. What is that for? UK?

Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as the hammer-wielding superhero.
Director Taika Waititi's critically acclaimed Thor: Ragnarok has taken flight overseas, earning $12.8 million from a handful of markets on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The U.K., the where the threequel opened on Tuesday, leads with a two-day haul $4.8 million. On Wednesday, Thor opened in nine additional European and Asian markets. In South Korea, it grossed $2.3 million, the biggest opening day for the month of October.
Marvel Studios and Disney's threequel is opening in roughly 50 percent of the international marketplace a week ahead of its domestic launch. Tracking suggests the superhero film could finish this weekend with an early foreign total of $100 million more more.
In North America, Thor: Ragnarok could climb as high as $125 million in its launch, well ahead of the first two films.
Thor: Ragnarok sees Chris Hemsworth returning as the Asgardian god. Thor teams up with brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and pal Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) to fight the goddess of death, Hela, played by Cate Blanchett. Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins also star.
Major foreign markets where Thor opens this weekend include the U.K., France, Italy, South Korea, Australia and Spain.
Next weekend, the movie swings its hammer in Germany, Russia, Mexico, China and Japan.
Thor: Ragnarok currently sports an enviable 97 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, one of the highest scores for a superhero title.
What is that for? UK?
Nah. (127-132) million to me sounds like the best case scenario for Thor:Ragnarok. Ragnarok may very well achieve that during the OW and it'll be an extremely great result for the movie.
Some more interesting things of note.
But numbers are encouraging and running slightly ahead of comp Doctor Strange which opened last year at this time. Natch, theyre considerably higher than 2013s Thor: The Dark World. Disney is caveating that a comp so far to Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 isnt fair given GOTG2 opened in the UK on a Friday. However, the numbers there (see below) are very solid, and its worth noting that Korea is over-performing versus GOTG2.
To wit: Koreas bow on Thor 3 was the biggest industry opening day ever for an October release. (Unofficially, yet notably, local reporting has Korea at $3.8M after two days.)
Elsewhere in Asia, Taiwan saw the biggest industry opening day ever for an October release and Indonesia hammered out the 6th biggest industry all-time opening day.
Let's not forget tracking numbers for "IT" was 60 million OW and doubled that.
150 million OW for Raganrok is nowhere near as far fetched as IT's OW.
