Thor's costume

Whatever it is, I hope we at least get some color. I'd hate to see Thor relegated to a boring brown and tan costume like he had in that Hulk movie from the '80s.

Actually the Norse war hammer commonly looked just like the 616 Mjolnir except with a much longer handle. That's not to say they didn't have hammer ax combos but saying it's more Norse accurate is pure BS!

Stating somebodys opinions are BS before reading up on it. Hmmm well what can i say. I know Wiki isnt the most accurate but it is easyer then scanning my books in. All im saying is the ult hammer covered more bases from a norse text point of veiw so I like that, hoxever im happy with the classic or age of thunder look.

In Norse mythology, Mjǫllnir or Mjöllnir or Mjölner (usually pronounced [ˈmjɔlˌnɪɹ] or /ˈmjɔlnɚ/ in English) is the hammer of Thor, a major god associated with thunder in Norse mythology. Distinctively shaped, Mjöllnir is depicted in Norse mythology as one of the most fearsome weapons, capable of leveling mountains. Though generally recognized and depicted as a hammer, Mjöllnir is sometimes referred to as an axe or club.[1] In the 13th century Prose Edda, Snorri Sturluson relates that the Svartálfar Sindri and Brokkr made Mjöllnir at the command of Loki.
The Prose Edda gives a summary of Mjöllnir's special qualities in that, with Mjöllnir, Thor:
... would be able to strike as firmly as he wanted, whatever his aim, and the hammer would never fail, and if he threw it at something, it would never miss and never fly so far from his hand that it would not find its way back, and when he wanted, it would be so small that it could be carried inside his tunic.[1]
So im reffering to thors hammer in particular that is some times mentioned as an axe. All i will say is dont start calling BS until people have all the facts.

End of rant sorry everybody.

The ACTUAL NORMAL war hammer no matter what country you lived in was a long handled Hammer with a very small hammer head. Many had Spikes on one side to pierce armor.

This is MY Thor's Hammer pendant TMT.

As we've stated the MYTH actually says the dwarfs messed up the hammer because they were being pestered by Loki.

I've been reading up on all things Thor for over thirty years!

You said the ultimate hammer was more Norse accurate. Your own source, which like you said is crap, says it was generally depicted as a hammer but sometimes depicted as an ax or club. How is that more Norse accurate?

It's not more Norse accurate compared to real Norse war hammers.
It's not more Norse accurate compared to the majority of Thor myths.
It's not more Norse accurate compared to the majority of Thor/Mjolnir art.

So in what way is it more Norse accurate? I think you're the one that needs to gather more facts, or at least pay attention to the ones you already have.

What I was attempting to explain is that it covers all angles from a norse myth POV. Its like taking witness statements people see things differently. One sees the desruction it makes and assumes it must be and axe anther asumes its a hammer because of its power ect. Hence different accounts and takes on a legand. I feel that the ult hammer takes its themes from a more broad perspective of the source material.
So I make statment about it being more accurate is from a mythic perspective. As I said its an opinion which now I think about it I am entitled to have, as are you. My problems is people getting on there high horses and calling BS!!!!! on everything.
Plus last time i checked this was a discussion forum. Surely if everybody had the same POV we would all have enjoyed every movie we have put infront of use and the would be no need form this place.

That said there is still no need for the agression that seems so be shown on the internet but hay, who am i to put the world to rights. :cwink:

The one thing I hope above all else is that his costume has the six metal/fabric circular discs on his chest, belly and upper thighs. As much as I don't care for Ultimate Thor's costume that was the one thing that Hitch got right. They're the equivalent to Superman's "S" symbol as far as I'm concerned.

agreed. it wouldn't be the same w/o the circles.

It always bugs me when some artists draw him with only four discs. Makes him seem incomplete.

How about checking some DON'T's?

The hammer's handle is way too long, but other than that it looks good. I'd prefer the middle discs to not be part of the belt, though.

I simply don't like overgrown wing on the helmet. It takes the focus off from the actor's face and emotion. Long mane is okay, but facial hair needs to go for the 1st film.

What do you mean by "overgrown"? I hope you're not suggesting that Thor's helmet shouldn't have wings at all. They're one of the most recognizable parts of his costume.

I say they should use something like the current costume, maybe with hints of the classic thrown in. The current costume is the best Thor costume IMO.

The current costume seems like it'd translate really well into a movie.

Much agreement here. (And let's face it he didn't seem that smart in the Hulk movie either.)

and....I agree with this too. I'm a purist about some things. (Okay...a lot of things.)

Sadly, pretty close to the current Thor design

Use me and my costume in the Thor movie, and I don't hurt the kid

Just, just sad.

Psycho much?

You have to admit that these are pretty well done, though. Always wanted to create my own costume for kicks. These guys are talented.

Thor's current costume is gaining the status of Wolverine's brown costume and Spider-man's black costume. In the world of alternative costumes, that's not bad company to be in. Coipel should be proud.

Coipel's design is my fave at this point with the Lord Thor outfit second
