I don't remember hearing anyone else mention this idea....so if you have already posted it, excuse me.

How do you guys and gals feel about the idea that Superman's suit is made from Kryptonian nano technology?

Depending on who's telling the origin story...Superman arrived on Earth with only the cape wrapped around him (and then the ship was destroyed)....or he arrived and the ship was saved by the Kents.

If you run with the idea that the ship was saved....then there could have been more in it than just the cape. If there was a piece of Kryptonian technology in the ship, that was able to recognize and react to Kal El's DNA....then it could have made the suit for him.

The suit would be made of Kryptonian material....thus making it possible to be impervious to flames and tearing from gunfire, explosions, and such things.....and for those times when he encounters something that is able to rip it, it would be self replicating. So, like when people ask what happened to his suit in SR after he was stabbed by Lex...the answer would be that it repaired itself.

Another concept that I have thought about.....people always ask about his suit being under his Clark Kent clothes. They say wouldn't it be bulky or noticable? I've also heard many people ask....why doesn't anyone find his discarded clothes laying around while he's off being Superman? What if.....the nano technology made it so that the Super suit didn't "make" itself until he needed it? That is....(1) once he consciously wanted to change into Superman, it made itself grow around him...or....(2) It is on him all the time. The Kryptonian nano technology makes it able to change into whatever he wants. It makes itself look like a regular Earth suit of clothes....until he wants to change into Superman, then it rearranges itself into the blue, red, and yellow suit we know.

I know that for the second idea, people will say "So why the shirt rip if it's already the supersuit?".....OK.......the ripping open of his shirt just makes it easier for that portion to turn into the cape.

Ok.....what are your thoughts?

I actually really like that idea... It gives Superman more of a sci-fi-ish feel to Superman Returns, and I like that.

I just prefer John Byrnes idea....Aura that surrounds his body making the clothes invunerable except the cape...Somehow i always thought that it was stupid that Clark used his heat vision to sew the suit...I just prefer it is all Ma Kents...No clothes from Krypton...Maybe just the S...but i still think it shouldn`t be the normal S...Something like Kindom Come`s S...Clark then adapts it and make it the traditional S after Lois names him Superman...

Yeah I'm more into this too. I don't need realism. Martha did the suit.
Spiderdaniel, I like your idea of a different shield (krypton/ smallville) , like, he could have adapted the symbol of his family into a more humanised "S" . That's a cool idea.
C.Lee, I think your idea is good, but I keep the simple "Ma made it for me" thing and the "S" representativ of Superman and not of the El family.

Thanks....here is an idea I had for explaining "Ma made it for me" ----

Clark and Martha are talking about his need to have a suit. They have the blanket he was wrapped in (which of course becomes the cape)....and they talk about colors and what not. I would have it already acknowleged that there is some kind of computer communicator in the ship, and that when it came into contact with him it activated and told him much about his background. In that way, Martha would say something like....the suit should be red, for your home planet's sun, blue to represent Earth, and yellow to represent your adoptive planet's sun. The artificial intelligence in the mechanism then takes that and commands the nano technoligy to make the suit that we know.

I am pretty sure that I read an article that the Singer and company's idea was the the suit was made from Kryptonian Technology and it was to be incorporated into the movie at one point.

Like I said....I don't remember hearing if someone else had brought it up....but I would have to think that someone would have. Was his ideas like mine (with nano technology and shape shifting) or something else?

What, they don't know about the pouch in his cape where he keeps his super-compressed and neatly folded street clothes:)

I like it.
It nicely updates the creation of the suit while being faithful to the initial concept, the Kryptonian raw materials arrive in the ship and Martha is instrumental in the creation/design of the suit.

I like C.Lee's ideas.
I mean really. Krypton has advanced technology. I find it easy to beleive that Jor-El & Lara would not want their son to run around his adopted home naked. Hence they would include some of Krytons techno-savy to provide him clothing.

Martha having a hand in the design of the suit is still something we are familiar with.

Plus...If I came across alien material, would I know how to sew them? Would they be able to even be sewn?

I think that C.Lee has a great idea. It works to solve all the inconsistencies. Because really, how does he hide the cape without it being seen anyway?

C. Lee's idea was actually something I had been thinking of when I was doing a fan script

Thanks folks :woot: .....except for you Kakorat:cmad: ......how many of my other ideas you going to try and steal?

:woot: :hyper:

I like C. Lee's idea, it actually makes perfect sense.

I like the down home touch of Clark's mom making his suit. The Byrne explanation works out great for that scenario.

I never read any of the Byrne stuff....so I don't have any reference for it.

I just thought my ideas would put an even greater science fiction touch to the story.

OH.....and stuff is on it's way S.

I just stole it. And you have more things to worry about. That lawsuit for liking Howard the Duck I am bringing against you.

The problem with a Kryptonian suit is, if it's so super, then the man wearing it doesn't have to be. It's kind of like The Greatest American Hero.

The suit doesn't make the bullet bounce off of his eye, it doesn't give him x-ray vision, or super cold breath, etc.......

when I was considering it, I also gave the suit the ability to go invisible, the ability to temporarily manipulate the wind resistance, and a wireless link to any information outlet on the planet...

yeah, it seems a bit much, but I thought it was cool
