I know it's late but I finally saw this movie. It had a wide range of bad reviews, and I still have such traumatic memories from Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor" so I decided to skip this one. After watching it, I have mixed feelings on it.
Before they escaped the laboratory, I thought this was a five star movie. It had a "THX 1138" feel to it. Very cool sci-fi theme.
The movie started going downhill with the huge (what felt like two hours) chase scene. I like sci-fi action flicks, and wish more people would make Ahney-esque movies like "Running Man" and "Total Recall" but this was over the top. The storyline was doing well, I didn't think they had to add a $50 million chase scene to keep the audience captivated.
I'm not much of a Michael Bay fan, but it does seem like reviewers have a double standard when they give this movie a lot of bad reviews (40% at Rotten Tomatoes) but a film like "Minority Report" mostly glowing reviews. (90%+ at Rotten Tomatoes) This movie was very similar to "Minority Report." Lighting and camera, pessimistic futuristic views on human nature, huge chase scenes......
You can trash this film for ripping off "Logan's Run" but I think too many people are on the "dog Michael Bay bandwagon." It has some cheese over the top moments like the "my name is Lincoln" scene but I had the same feeling after watching this that I did "Minority Report." Both were fun experiences, good movies, but not classics. I'll take my sci-fi anyway I can get it.
