Yeah, frankly the Johanna girl was the worst in my opinion. Freakishly high pitched.

Depp's singing voice sounded a lot like David Bowie, especially during "Epiphany".

I loved Depp's voice. His acting through singing was really top notch.

Did anyone else think that Johnny was totally channeling Edward Scissor Hands during
the wedding fantasy?
It was the stance and awkwardness. It was the only time he reminded me of Eddie.

That sequence is hilarious by the way. Todd in his
bathing suit
is priceless.

Well no surprise, I wasn't happy with Toby at all, or Pirelli. Everyone else though I loved. Was a bit upset they took away the ****e aspect of beggar woman, felt it took away from the character. I usually hate the character of Johanna but she didn't bother me here. My complaint with Sweeney's character is that he was so into getting revenge on Judge Turpin, it felt like he forgot he had a daughter. Loved Mrs. Lovett. Antony won my heart.:O I was happy they cut most of Bailey's and Johanna's singing.
I am a bit curious as to hear/see how Burton would have incorporated a ghost chorus.

I had no real expectations since I didn't know much of anything about the play at all, so I ended up really liking the movie.

The entire cast was fantastic. ESPECIALLY Toby and Pirelli.

Of course you'd disagree with me.:o

But it's cool, I have good taste, you have bad.:o

Actually, the only weak person for me was Helena. She wasn't as bad as I was expecting. As a matter of fact she surprised me. Just not fantastic.

Was anyone else disturbed by Pirelli's and Turpin's crotch shadows?

this is the best burton flick ive seen in a while . depp's sweeney todd was right on point . all the actors came through . the singing seemed odd at first but blends in very well after the first half hour . it was alot of fun , toby and pirelli's scenes were great . the most enjoyable part for me was the "by the sea" song . i dont know how this compares to other versions but i think it was a worthy effort.

The best thing about SWEENEY TODD is the way that Tim Burton and his writers managed to elevate the material from the musical. So much rich detail was added that really fleshed things out that, in the musical, you don't even have time to imagine during some of the songs. The entire cast was excellent, even though most of them were clearly not highly trained singers (they had some coaching, that much was obvious). Depp was masterful, and this is one of Burton's better films. An absolutely spectacular achievement.

Saw it last night and I give it 5 out of 5. Great flick.

I saw it at the midnight showing Thursday, and again last night. It was simply incredible, and worth the 11 months spent in eager anticipation!

Really dark, creepy and great. 10 out of 10 without a doubt.

Never saw the play, so the ending caught me by surprise and everything with his wife/beggar made sense in the end. Really tragic, if only he was told the truth things probably would have been not as twisted...

Saw this last night, and loved it. I never read or saw the play, so I can't speak for its accuracy, but I felt the movie was twistedly brilliant.

Just to clarify to those who never saw the play or have heard the original cast recording, the film was almost word for word identical to the play. Several songs were cut, as they didn't fit the tone of the film, as well as a few lyrical omissions, don so as to keep the transition from stage to film smooth. Some of the lyrics and songs were written only to ever work on stage, and would not have translated well on screen. But other than the cuts made, the film was practically word for word a direct adaptation. That, and they added a few things to keep things moving smoothly. This is easily the best adaptation of a stage musical ever put on film, and it was helped by the fact that it was an adaptation of the greatest musical ever put on stage by the greatest living composer in musical theatre. :woot: Hope I helped. If anyone wants to know the specific cuts/changes, just PM me.

It really was. I don't understand what everyone was talking about saying it is so different from the play. It's really not.

Agreed.

Best musical adaptation I've seen.

I'm also happy they didn't make the token original song so they have a shot at an Oscar for it.:cmad:

This movie confirmed my desire to have Burton do another adaptation of Little Shop Of Horrors. This time with more blood and an R rating. :o

I'm so seeing this next week. Thank god for a month-long winter break from school.

Just saw it, and wow. Amazing, my favourite musical to date. I didn't see the stage play or read the script along with some, but it was fantastic. Does anyone know where I can find the Johanna song for download? It was fantastic. I loved how all the songs blended together, but the ending was sad, a tearjerker at most.

Just curious

Anthony, and Johanna, kind of a cliffhanger there, aswell with Toby.
