Burton wasn't directly involved with Nightmare. It was his ideas, but the film was handled by others.

not since sleepy hollow.... Chocolate factory was w/e... but still not a tim burton movie. Big Fish was a piece of ****. Corpse Bride was such a shame.

musicals for the part is a turn off to me. so im kinda hoping burton plays that aspect down.

Why do all of Tim Burtons characters have to look like him?![]()

We should get the trailer in a few weeks.
I can't see an R rated musical doing well at the box office.
t:I don't think that's what's on the minds of Burton, Depp, or Sondheim. We're not just talking about any old musical here, guys. This is Sweeney Todd, the greatest musical production in the history of modern theatre. This could very well end up being Burton's masterpiece. The reaction form the audience at Venice film festival to the clips shown have given me 100% confidence in the sheer power of the film version, as it is becoming very clear that Burton and Depp are not taking this lightly. With almost any great director in history, they usually do one film that stands out above the rest of their work as the most personal, visionary, and complete work they've done. For Scorsese, it was Taxi Driver, for Peter Jackson, it was King Kong (yes King Kong was more of a personal achievement for him than LOTR), with Lucas, of course it would be Star Wars, with Spielberg, Schindler's List, for Ridley Scott, Blade Runner, for Francis Ford Coppola, Apocalypse Now, for Guillermo del Toro, Pan's Labyrinth, and the list goes on. Burton has even stated that it was a personal dream of his to do a musical, and that since Sweeney Todd was his favorite, naturally, his dream was to make Sweeney Todd. His only concern right now is completing his vision for this film, and Even if it doesn't break records at the box office, who cares? He will have realized a deeply personal ambition and as long as he is happy with his work, that's all that matters.t:
What type of genre is this?
Horror Musical with elements of comedy?
Or straight up serious?
Yes. I agree completely. I was merely stating how the studio is most likely thinking. Musicals are a huge gamble in themselves, and don't really make tons of money. Having an R rating just decreases the already small audience for the film.
Both films really need a marketing boost right now and it's better to do it sooner than later, just to get the buzz stirring hard.
