Is it me or does Tim Sale's Art remind you of Tim Burton's Batman films???
I wish I had some examples..but I've felt that way ever since the single issues of The Long Halloween...any body else??

He's definitely got that Art deco and fantasy vibe going on.

As for examples, the one that strikes me most is the two-page spread from the Long Hallowen TPB (pgs. 364-365).

yeah, I agree...his work seems more suited to the burton world..and Adam's i think is more suited to the nolan world....strange...

Adams is in a league all by himself. If anything, Marshall Rogers' work is more grounded (no art-deco spires, crazy gothic churches). He just draws plain, generic American city settings.

Mazzuchelli, however, takes the cake in terms of Nolanisms.

ah...bubba, so you are right....i forgot about mazzuchelli...shame on me...
though come to think of it...I would have loved to see what Year one would have looked like if Adams drew it

Batman Shaman comes pretty close. The art's by Ed Hannigan, but it looks very Adamesque :-)O).

But yeah, back on topic...how about that Sale? :cwink:

Tim Sale is a fine artist but I don't like his Batman or Bruce Wayne, something about the beedy little eyes and pouty little mouths don't grab me.

Forgive my ignorance, but what book is that from..."The Man Who Falls"?....

back to sale, i really think his work mirrors the burton batman..

I never made that connection reading them.

Burtons films always seemed very black (or dark grey/ dark blue / dark brown) to me, while Sale's work always has a grey vibe to it. The outfits of the mobsters is very 1940s, which is also what Burton was going for.

I do like Sale's work though, compressing the detail to just couple of lines and filling the rest with ink really gives the work readability and a mood of mystery rather than flashy showiness (which kez mentioned). I wouldn't say he's my favorite artist, but he's very readable and I've never had a hard time understanding what was happening in a panel.

In terms of the look and atmosphere:
Batman 89'- The Dark Knight Returns
Batman Returns- Long Halloween
Batman Begins- Batman: Year One

I'll agree on 1989 and Begins, but Batman Returns would more be the crazy world that Alan Grant created together with Norm Breyfogle.

Batman Forever is Hush though...in terms of colour fullness.

I don't know if his artwork is reminisicent of the Burton films, but I mark out for his Batman and Spider-Man.

Now if he could just draw a decent Superman...
