So I plan on buying a new video card for my computer pretty soon, and I asked my brother (who's pretty good with computers) and said a good buy was nVidia aka GeForce, he recommended this one Palit nVidia GeForce 8500GT.

I look to buy this one pretty soon, but wanted to just ask if any of you know of any other good video cards that I should look into with a nice price tag as well.:woot: My main goal is to be able to play HD quality video on my computer, as well as being capable of good PC gaming in case I catch on anytime soon. :hehe:

Thanks.

8600 is the best one. There's also the new Radeon GTI one. But I personally prefer nVidia GeForce

Really another one for nVidia GeForce, that's awesome, makes me feel like my brother knows what he is talking about :hehe:

Thanks

what type of computer do you have? how old is it?

I actually can't say right now, I'm on a laptop during school and my computer's back home so I'm not exactly sure. I'm pretty sure it's an IBM, and it doesn't seem too old, it's Windows XP (2003 I think). I bought a gig of RAM for it over the summer too so it's runs alot smoother now also.

Well that card is PCI-express. are you sure pc has a slot for it?? older computers have just pci or AGP sockets

Well I could be wrong, I wish I was at my actual computer right now dammit. My brother had plugged in the RAM for me earlier so he opened it up, and he told me a new video card was possible if I wanted. I think he had a rough idea of what it looked like when I asked him if I could even get a new video card.

well if you can have a new Graphics card the minimum I would say is a nVidia GeForce 8600GT which will run current games and the like at pretty high settings but I'd recommend a nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX if you can afford it since its one of the most powerful cards and will play games at full settings and last you at least 3-4 years running at full to medium settings. But if you can't afford the 8800 try the nVidia GeForce 8700 GT which is the next step up from the 8600GT.

Thanks alot I'll look into that as well.

And also, these things die out too or what? You have to buy new ones after a few years then?

Generally you'll never see your graphics card die unless you overclock it to hell, they can die if you used them heavily for a few years but I'll doubt it will come to that personally I've never had a graphics card die on me.

Oh Ok, well that's good to know. I guess unless you do hardcore PC gaming 17 hours a day while watching BluRay movies at the same time for 2 straight years you shouldn't have much to worry about then.

17 hours of PC gaming if only I had the time, I'll just have to settle for 16 hours :D
