Fiennes, Firth, Oldman and Fassbender Set for Tinker

Source: Variety
July 8, 2010

Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Gary Oldman and Michael Fassbender will star in the espionage thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy for Working Title and Studio Canal.

Tomas Alfredson (Let The Right One In) is directing the film, which starts shooting this October in London. Peter Morgan wrote the script.

Based on John Le Carre's seminal cold war best-seller, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, the thriller tells the tale of a spy-hunt within the highest echelons of the British Secret Intelligence Service.

This sounds ****ing awesome. If you're not excited, or at least interested in this something is wrong with you.

This whole thing sounds off the ****ing chain.

Now that is a ****ing cast! The cast alone interests me immensely.

holy **** whata cast and director! Im psyched for this

I heard about this a couple of weeks ago. The cast is F*ing ridiculous(as in good)! Its a great director too.

Insane cast and Peter Morgan wrote the script. Interestingly enough, Morgan wrote a draft for what is/was supposed to be Bond 23 and Fassbender is my choice to be Craig's successor as Bond.

This spy movie is definitely on my hit list.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy! OMG! I love that book! I love LeCarree! This is gonna be insane! I'm literally in freak out mode since I read this news over at the James Bond forum I visit.

So Ralph is back for another LeCarre adaptation after The Constant Gardener, guess he must be a fan of him now. I can't wait to see this, even bad adaptations of LeCarre (the tailor Of Panama, The Russia House) still have a lot of his charm. One of our best writers working today.

I wonder which one of these guys will play George Smiley?

Sounds like some MI-6 ****. Might as well make it MI-13 to keep up with the times.

Keep up with the times? A Cold War story set in England in the early 60's? I think changing a thing would ruin it, it's very much a product of it's time and a damn good book.

Makes me wonder if they'll do the whole "Quest For Karla" trilogy?

I want to see this already just because of the cast.

I'm really excited about this film, my most anticipated of the year. The material, the director, the cast are all great. It can't go wrong.
I'm looking forward to see Oldman in this meaty lead role, and hopefully, he'll finally get the well deserved recognitions for it.

Interview with Oldman:

Anyway, the title of the topic should be changed as Fiennes and Fassbender are not in the cast.

Of course it is, it's based on a Lecarre work. I'm more excited for this movie that pretty much everything coming.

God, I can't wait. I should read the book.

Hey if Gary Oldman is so good in this then maybe he might finally get an Oscar nom he so richly deserves....

Bale then Oldman in two years?

What a dream come true.

Good to see they're looking at a late 2011 release, seeing as IMDB has September listed. I'd hate to see this get lost in the crazy packed summer.

Is it out this year, so Oldman would be up for next years Oscars?? :awesome:
