I need advice! Ok, so lately I've really been into gaming. I have a PS2 but the only games I play on it consistently are Guitar Hero games and NCAA Football 07 and 08. Occasionally DDR but I totally suck at it and I played X-Men Legends 1 and 2 til my neices boyfriend borrowed them and never returned em.

I really have been thinking about buying a Wii a lot lately.

I've played Wii twice in the past week and a half at my friends house and all we've played are the Wii sports, and still, I kinda got even more excited about the possibility of getting one.

Say I buy a Wii, what accessories do I need to get? Pickles recommended a rechargeable battery pack for the controllers. I've seen steering wheels, light sabers, and nunchuks? So what exactly is needed?

Also, do all games require activity? I know the main purpose of the Wii is like active play, but sometimes I just wanna be lazy and play without having to mimic the movements. Are there games that you can do that too? I like playing sports games (pretty much only football and basketball) and I know I won't always wanna go through the motions. I also like games like X-Men Legends and Tomb Raider and I definitely would like to sit back while I play those.

Is there somewhere I can go to see a list of all games available for wii or something? i think that will influence my decision to buy one A LOT.

Also can someone explain Wii points and stuff to me?

I have so many questions but I can't think!

Does anyone have a Wii Fit? If so, thoughts on it? I think I'd like it so I can do yoga and stuff. I've never done yoga but I would prefer to do it in the privacy of my home instead of in a class with a quirky instructor.

Wii Music? Is it awesome? I think my fascination with the Wii originated with me seeing this commercial?

What does "All Play" mean?

Also I like Guitar Hero. (before it's mentioned, I have never played Rock Band so I don't know if I like that or not) How is that on the Wii?

That's all I can think of for now.

If you like playing games, then I'm sure you'll like the wii. It's a very female friendly system. My wife loves it and she's never been into any games before, no matter how hard I tried. But she actually turns the wii on by herself which is something I never expected.

DO NOT get the rechargeable bases. Sometimes they don't work or fail over time. I got a rechargeable Energizer battery kit at Sam's club and those have been working very well. Plus I have batteries left over for other equipment.

As far as accessories go, if you get a Wii, you'll at least want another Wiimote, you know the standard controller. You can go to Gamestop and ask for the one that comes with a game, called Wii Play. It's $10 more to get the one with the game, but it's worth it.

You may or may not need an additonal nunchuck depending on the games you get and how much time you plan on playing multiplayer games. The system comes with one. My advice would be to get another nunchuck once you feel that you really need another one.

You really don't need the other accessories like the light saber and steering wheel, unless you just want them. Mario Kart comes with a steering wheel, but I never even use it.

I've heard Wii Music sucks. So check out some on-line reviews to see what I'm talking about. Go to ign.com and look it up.

Wii Points is something you'll understand a lot more once you have a Wii. They have a Shop Channel where you can buy games using the Wii Points. I know they sell $20 Wii Points cards at places like wal-mart, best buy, etc. But look on the Wii and see what games you'd really want before you get any cards. 100 points = $1, so a 2000 point card = $20.

My wife and I have Wii fit, and it's a pretty good game. Even if you never play the Wii Fit, even though I'm sure you will, it's worth it to have the balance board as they're going to make a plethora of games to be used with the balance board. Wii Fit also has a password system so you can prevent others from seeing your weight and BMI etc.

Not all games require activity. Like Mario Galaxy, Smash Brothers, Wario Shake It, etc.

Games my wife likes:

Mario Kart
Wii Fit
My Fitness Coach
Active Life Outdoor Challenge
My Word Coach
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party

My wife only likes the really interactive games and doesn't care for the "standard" type of video games. So if you like regular good old fashioned games, these are the games I highly recommend besides the ones above.

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Paper Mario

Also I like Guitar Hero. (before it's mentioned, I have never played Rock Band so I don't know if I like that or not) How is that on the Wii?

Rock Band is the same thing as Guitar Hero except better. You can see the difficulty ratings for each instrument on each song, create a custom playlist, organize the song list by difficulty, genre, alphabetical, and decade.

That said, I own GHWT on Wii (I'm trying to sell it since I got Rock Band 2 for 360). It was good. Only bad thing is you have to store the songs you download onto SD cards since the Wii's memory is too small.

Just to add to that, you can buy Wii Points through the Wii itself online with a credit card (Visa and Discovery IIRC). You can buy them in different amounts (1000, 2000, 3000, and 5000, IIRC).

I also have a newbie question.

1. Can the wii play dvds?

I also have a newbie question.

1. Can the wii play dvds?

Yes, but only if you install something called 'The Homebrew Channel', which requires Zelda Twilight Princess, and an SD card. Google is your friend for this one, as well as GBATemp.

And ComicChick, I would reccomend getting a Wii. It's a great bit of kit, and will keep you entertained for a long time. Yet remember the Wii has lots of ''Casual Games'', y'know, games like Wii Sports etc, which don't really have a storyline to them. If you are after proper games for Wii, there are many. Resident Evil 4, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and No More Heroes are three of my personal favourites

Go for it, the Wii is awesome!

Wait....the Wii can play DVDs? Cool......No need for me....but cool.

Okay....everyone else pretty much covered everything....but I'll cover a couple more things I think I can add.

You mention playing football.....I dunno if NCAA games are on wii.....I never really looked....but I do have Madden, and lemme tell you....it's ****ing great....the controls revolutionalizes the way I play football games.

Also....an add on to that.....you talk about being lazy and just wanting to play....while football is a little more in depth with the moving (not like Wii Sports) it's not too bad.....Force Unleashed and Spider-man also use movement controls, but lemme tell you.....It's just like pushing a button.....I don't even notice that I am moving my hand or flisking my wrist.....it's frikking awesome.

And someone asked what All Play was....it's a lamer kiddie version of sports games that are less in depth with all the stuff and more friendly for the whole family to play....if you're a fan get the real version.

So yeah.....get a wii.....the graphics are worse....but I realy don't mind as I love the ****ing controls.

Wii is a fun little console that really shines if you can get friends to play it with you. Many of their best games are best when played in the multiplayer mode, like Mario Kart, Warioware, SSBB, Mario Party 8, etc. With Wiimote's innovate control, games like Madden do play quite different than 360 and PS3 version, so they make up for the weak graphics. If you can, get Wii and either of the two next-gen consoles to complete your gaming library.

It did win the console wars of 08, according to media reports.

I believe it - shopping in the Wii section of any store was a nightmare this Christmas. Everyone was either getting the Wii for themselves or getting games for people they knew were getting the Wii. I was buying games for at least 4 people who just got it.

And I'd definitely recommend the Wii. I got it for Christmas last year, and it is still the coolest thing I own. It's a lot of fun.

People have been saying since 2006 that it's just a fad, and people would get sick of it. Well....

The Wii is a fantastic casual gaming machine. My aunt and uncle just got one for the kids in the family this Christmas and it was really fun playing it with everyone. However thats about as far as the Wii is worth IMO. If you consider yourself a hardcore gamer, the Wii wont cut it, at all. If you feel you are going to want to play games on more than a casual basis i suggest you save up for one of the other two systems, either the PS3 or 360.

I agree. I have a Wii and I used to have family, friends, and in-laws all playing it, and it was a blast. I spent alot of money buying Wiimote (I have 4), nunchuks, Gamecube controllers (for SSBB because that's the way to go), and games like Mario Kart, Mario Party 8, Madden, SSBB, etc. However, after awhile less and less people find Wii fun and interesting, and I found myself playing single-player games like Mario Galaxy, which imo isn't as fun as multiplayer games.

Now I have a 360 and I'm enjoying games like RB2, GTA4, GOW1, SC4, etc. Mario Galaxy may be a fine game, but games like GTA4 and GOW1 are more interesting to me.

While its true that the Wii doesn't have as many hardcore games as PS3 and Xbox, ComicChick doesnt seem like shes a hardcore gamer anyway. And there ARE hardcore games. Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros., Resident Evil 4 are probably my favorite games on the Wii.

But if youre not into those types of games, Mario Kart Wii is a great multiplayer game, and I recently got Boom Blox which I thought was pretty good. You shuold check out the reviews for those. I would say the only accessory you might need is a classic controller, if you plan to get Virtual Console games. A nunchuk you can decide for later because its mostly used in single player games and the Wii comes with one already.

Oh and I hear Rock Band 2 is better than Guitar Hero. But Ive only played Guitar Hero II so what do i know.

Basically, the Wii has the best of both worlds for casual and hardcore gamers:)

thank you to everyone who's provided feedback thus far

i will admit, i'm not an avid gamer, but i like the 'senseless' fun the wii can offer. not sure if senseless is the exact word i wanna use, but it suffices. i've been made aware that the graphics aren't the top of the line, but all the others things it has makes up for that i think.

the past 2 days i've been looking through target.com and they've been sold out. i also called two local stores and they were out as well. today on my break at work i walked over to the electronics store and not a wii in sight.

i'm pretty much really keen on the idea of getting a wii. i'd love to get a PS3 with my tax money, particularly with the blu ray tie-in i think its a better choice for the money in getting a gaming console AND a blu ray player.

the games i do play mostly were sports related, but i like games like Xmen Legends and Tomb Raider as well. i'm curious how these games transfer over to the Wii. I hear about Resident Evil a lot, although i've never played

Basically the gameplay is the same as the other two versions, except you may have to use the nunchuk and wand to do certain movements....that's what makes it fun, child. :o

I say do it. I bought the Wii last year and i'm still not disappointed. Well, that's a lie. I AM disappointed in the Star Wars: Unleashed version for Wii. They totally butchered the story. When I saw the ending and such on my friends 360 compared to my console, I almost whacked him with the controller. I felt like I was the cool kid who just got pushed down the stairs by the nerdy fat kid.

i've tried calling yet again to get a wii, but sadly, they are still out of stock :(

If you get a Wii, please please please play Resi Evil and Web of Shadows. They are amazing games :)

Do not be put off by graphics, either. They don't distort gameplay or anything, and on games like Brawl, the graphics are actually very impressive :)

if you have a toys r us near you there surely have a couple in stock, when i went to my local toys r us last september to pick it up they had like 20 in stock.

Go for it. I'm not a gamer by any means, but I bought a Wii last month (kind of spur of the moment because it was the last one on the shelf) and haven't put the controller down since. I still need to get acquianted with the system and the games it offers. All I have is Wii Sports (which is included) & Mario Kart Wii.

as much as i want a Wii, the practical side of my mind took control for a bit i'm afraid.

i'm having surgery tuesday, and will be out of work 3 weeks to more than likely, a month. that being said, the logical side of my brain told me i don't really need to be playing games that require a lot of movement seeing as how i won't be able to move much at all.

so, i put the money i was going to use towards taking care of some bills in advance, and decided to wait to get a wii til after i'm back to "normal"

until that time, i'll be playing my trusty PS2.

that being said, the top games on my list so far are (not in order):

*Wii Sports
*Mario Kart
*Brawl
*Wii Fit

can yall recommend some other games for me to check out? i saw someone recommended resident evil, and web of shadows. how bout some other titles?

Eh, id hold off on the Web of Shadows, either that or move it to the very bottom of your list.

You cant go wrong with Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid or Twilight Princess

let's have Wii sex :)
