Sequels Tobey Maguire to do Robotech

Tobey Maguire starring in another movie with an apparent desire to work on smaller films? I'd say that's pretty relevant to SM4.
Why don't we have Hobbit news in here then since Raimi is interested in that? This movie has nothing to do with SM4 period polka dot. Voice work does not take as much time as physically acting does. Plus, they usually work around the actor's schedules.

A) The relevance of the news has to do with Maguire working on another project, not Robotech itself. Nobody posts updates on the Hobbit unless it's pertinent as to whether or not Raimi is directing it.

B) We don't know if the movie is animated or live action. I think the fact that Transformers is being cited as a reason WB have the green light to this movie supports the idea of it being live action.

Why would it be an animated movie? Its obviously going to be the live action version.
Anyway, like I said in the misc thread regarding this, if this means TMags' ass is being pulled away from spider-man, I'm all for it. Actually, I don't care what he does, as long as his involvment with the spidey movies has come to an end I'm good.

Just because he would be doing a voice in that animated series, it doesn't mean he won't do Spidey4. wasn't Tobey still not finshed with his scenes in The Good German while he was filming in Spidey3? Correct me if I'm wrong though. Basically what I'm saying is that Tobey could still be in Spidey4 even while he's voicing a character in this animated series.

We'll see.

Meh, Spidey 4 sounds better. **** a Gundam movie (preferably a Wing trilogy) would be better. Come to think of it maguire would make a good Quatre....

but I mean Spidey 4 I would think is a more interesting project if he still wants his blockbuster cash cow backup.

Terrible news if he doesn't come back for SM4. No one can replace him at this point.

Bull*****. Tobey Maguire is to Spider-Man what Michael Keaton was to Batman: Overrated, and wholeheartedly not right for the role.

Like Daniel Craig couldn't replace Pierce Brosnan? :) I'm just a-sayin'...
Yes but the 007 series has had many different bonds so a change really isn't "that big". While many are used to Tobey so this could really impact the movie and box office.

Yea but in the begining I bet people b!tched about Sean Connery being replaced just how I imagine some people on here would b!tch about Tobey eventually being replaced.

The spidey movies have to start somewhere with the recasting.

Oh hell no, you need to die!!:cmad: :cmad: Keaton was unconventional but perfect casting. Never is keaton overrated, I actually think he's underrated and is to date, still the best batman....yes, even better than Bale but that may change once TDK comes out.:word: :oldrazz: :woot:

Batman Forever did better at the box office than Batman Returns. Live and Let Die (the first Roger Moore Bond film) did better at the box office than any previous Bond film. And keep in mind, these were guys whose performances AND movie were noticably inferior to those who they were succeeding. Recasting has never really presented a problem. The Spider-Man franchise is bigger than Tobey Maguire, and if you recast the part, it will still make money, and if you recast the part WELL, it will succeed enormously.

The "Toby can't be replaced" stuff is ridiculous. He can be replaced, and surely will be. When that time will come, we don't know.

As for this project, I doubt it would even interfere with filming Spidey 4.

I just want to point oui that Craig is the first successful recasting after a popular Bond. Sure OHMSS made money but the movie was a disappointment at the box office and fairly ignored in 1969 because Connery wasn't in it and the studio heads above EON wanted George Lazenby gone within a week (though he stupidly quit himself) and it was a crisis of getting Connery to return that saved the series. Then after that moore's first two Bond's were not very successful and he didn't have audience recognition until his third film TSWLM.

And after Moore and his 7 film tenture came Timothy Dalton who while fans may worship for some unknown reason, he was genuinely disliked in the Bond role and TLD continued to not do very well for the franchise and LTK was a bomb. After a 9 year break afterwards he was replaced by Brosnan (again studio pressure for him to leave but he like Lazenby "made the decision").

With that said I think this franchise is a much different beast than Bond. For starters it is just in the common collective now that Bond is to be played by different actors and interpretations. But in the '60s Bond was essientially a serial for audlts (comic books). And that also made them more disposable. There was no overlapping storyline other than SPECTRE which the series itself kept changing the leader of and the backstory of every installment.

I think there will be a recasting and that it will not bomb because of it, but when people see the lead face that they associate with the role (to most audiences today Tobey Maguire IS Spider-Man) there will be a turn-off as if the series is losing steam. The box office will dwindle considerably. And they no longer have Venom or the symbiote as their ace in the hole to keep audiences interested.

I myself personally think Maguire was a good Parker but only OK as Spidey but think that has more to do with RAimi's vision (deadly serious and noble Parker with a silent boyish Spidey-savior) than Maguire's performance (he wasn't half bad in the SM2 video game as Spidey).

I think there are probably better actors suited for the role out there, though I think Maguire himself is a very good actor who borders on greatness in certain films and is underappreciated by the fans.

P.S. Keaton was a great Batman. An underrated performance.

restart the sm series...tobey was and is sony's spider-man
now lets remake the movies...and use villians like mysterio, electro, kraven, lizard, hobgoblin, etc.
(and of course re-do dock ock, green goblin, and venom)
