Look I appreciate the bringing issues that the government and society were ignoring at the time to the spotlight, but I just find the initial plot of two starving artists who feel entitled that they don't have to *gasp* pay rent to be in it. I do like the songs.
No, I hear you, the lead characters in that show are cloying, pretentious and unlikeable, like the guys with blonde dreadlocks who try to explain discrimination to me. Rent was ahead of its time, in terms of foreshadowing hipsters and spoiled millennials. The only time in my life I cheered for the opportunistic infections.
