Finally saw this. I enjoyed it. The beginning was slow and dragged for me but once Lara got to the island, the movie got good for me. Although, I feel like the movie kind of peaked when Lara was escaping Vogel's captivity, that whole sequence was very riveting. I wish it had been more of a...survival film. Seeing Lara survive in the jungle, escape and fight the henchmen by using her cunning and learning how to make weapons could have been great to watch. But then again, its TOMB RAIDER so I guess they needed to have tomb stuff so...oh well.

I hope they make a sequel, I'd watch it and Vikander really put a lot into the role. I also wouldnt mind seeing Roar Uthug come back, you could tell he's a very competent director and I think a second part with all the preliminaries out of the way could provide for a real badass Tomb Raider movie. It doesn't seem like the movie did too bad at the BO, any chance of that happening?

The movie completely loses me after it's revealed her dad is still alive and basically does everything for her.

In the 2013 game, Jessica is on her own and basically has to fight or flight.

So it basically would've been like an extended version of that like Predator montage sequence. I'll use the jungle. I'll adapt, I'll survive in the wilderness, and I'll strike back.

Yes yes YES! That's what I wanted! I thought that was the direction they were going to go in after the escape sequence and I was really into the movie at that point. And then, yeah, when she finds her father, the movie's pace comes to a screeching halt and isn't nearly as riveting anymore. If this had been a pure gritty, jungle survival film, this could've been GREAT. Ah well...

I enjoyed it, and it's certainly several steps up from most video game movies.

I really liked Alicia in the role and one thing that I liked about Lara in this is that she had to struggle. Like she was smart and talented and physically fit. But things didn't always come easy for her, she got beat up a lot, she had to work for things, her plans didn't always work, etc.

It made her far more sympathetic and relatable and her ultimate victory all the more satisfying. It was what a certain other movie coughTheLastJedicough failed to do with it's lead coughReycough.

The odds of this getting a second film are pretty much slim to none at this stage. In hindsight I think Tomb Raider's popularity peaked 15 years ago. The modern day Lara Croft is not nearly as iconic.

Just watched this movie again on 4K and it would be a crying shame if we never get to see Alicia in the role again. As others have pointed out, she brings a lot of humanity and heart to the role, you really root for her Lara. But she is also great in the action sequences too, totally convincing as a bad ass learning her way as she goes along. The work she put into her body really pays off.

At the very least, I hope we get to see her in an action role again in the near future. And I still LOL at the people who didn’t think she was ‘hot enough’ for this role, she is stunning throughout.

I still think they could do a sequel on a smaller budget. I haven’t played ‘Rise’ yet, so I do t know if that story needs a big budget, but as with this movie, changes would be made to story anyway.

Bought it on Amazon Video for $7.99 today with Prime. Good deal.

It's a decent movie, its just not spectacular, but as a franchise starter I thought it was a good way to start.

Unfortunately, it just doesn't look like the franchise will happen at the moment.

Finally got around to seeing this and I don't understand what all the fuzz is about. I thougt this was a pretty decent movie.
Was it a masterpiece? No. But it was definitely a fun action movie, and I would really like to see Alicia again in a sequel as I feel there's a lot of stuff that can be improved on from this one.

Saw this recently, quick review: It is a mediocre movie with a really well cast lead. She may not be quite as charismatic as Angelina Jolie, but Vikander is a better actress and totally committed to the role. However, the movie doesn't really "click" until they raid a tomb, which for some unbeknownst reason doesn't occur until the last TWENTY minutes of the movie. The climax is great, but it is pretty generic studio committee writing/boilerplate storytelling until they reach that climax.

That’s where I just shut off the movie. I started losing interest with the main bad guy and then seeing McNulty looking like he was in Castaway was the last straw.

Watching it right now, nearly at the end and so far it has been okay. Somehow boring despite all the action scenes. Nothing wrong with the cast but nothing special with the story either.

As far as a video game adaptation it definitely could have been worse.

I'm currently playing Tomb Raider 2013 and despite my initial negative feelings toward the game reboot ( because I'm an old fart that played the first one back in 96 ), I must admit that I like the game, it is quite engaging and thrilling.

Now, the movie really captured the spirit of the new Lara, especially the hardships that she comes through. I still can't believe how much beating she takes, in game I sometimes feel for her :)
For me it is a better game adaptation than the first movies and Vikander is a better Lara than Jolie was and I really liked her as Lara but her movies were poor adaptations in comparison with the TR games of the time.

As far as Jolie goes, I always had a soft spot for Cradle of Life.

Agreed with that. Vikander was very good for me but the rest of the film didn't quite measure up. Tomb Raider films need more tomb raiding.

I love this fan film. I wish the movie had a scene similar to it. It takes absolute no budget, and it’s quick simple. It’s like a femal version of John Wick.

Yeah that's the thing. Vikander is good in the role, but the movie itself is mediocre.

And once again, her having her dad help her and do everything sort of defeats the purpose of Lara's journey. In the 2013 game, Lara was on her own and had no one to help her. She had to save herself.

Can't really disagree with that. I thought it was decent thanks to Vikander, but no more than that. I preferred it to the older two films though.
