I just got back from watching Tomb Raider. I liked it. It's a very good action, adventure movie. Alicia Vikander is excellent as Lara Croft. She really elevates the material she had to work with. The effort from Vikander to look the part and her insistence on performing her own stunts is admirable. Plus she made changes to the script to make her character more serious and less sassy. Needless to say that she justified the change in approach because she brought the goods in the more dramatic moments. She deserves a lot of praise for the amount of work she put in for the movie. Dominic West is also very good and the relationship between Lara and her father is executed very well. Goggins is a bit generic as the baddie but he is serviceable. The action is good but nothing remarkable but it fits the movie as this is Lara's origin story. Overall, I liked it a lot. I look forward to a sequel if it ever happens.

I wanna ask: what the HELL happened here? Apparently, the director here has DONE better action movies over in Norway, and one of the writers did an action comedy with Michael Fassbender, so what went wrong? How did the action scenes in this get screwed up? Did WB or Square-Enix meddle with this movie somehow?

Huh? The action scenes were great. It's one of the strongest aspects of the film. Have you seen it?

I really hope there's a sequel. Hopefully the international BO numbers boost it up. Worse movies made less money than this and got sequels. So heres to hoping.

Then why are there people saying the action scenes were lame compared to the Jolie movies?

The first Jolie movie had cool action scenes and that was half due to the kickass early 2000's techno music that was en vogue at the time that played during them. Cradle of Life's action was ***** though.

Anybody like the color grading in the movie? I liked the way it looked in the theater.

Disappointed in this movie. It should have been like the Revenant

.....why would anyone expect Tomb Raider to be like The Revenant?

You forget where you are for a second?

I've not watched this yet but if it should have been like anything it should have been The Descent (2005) as it has the survival adventure/horror/secret society in it. Then it probably would have been reviewed better too.

i enjoyed it!! it kind of reminded me of female version of inida johns! i know its an video game series ! but i actually liked the reboot movie better then angelina jolie tomb raider movies!! some one said that they used too much cgi ,i didn't see any cgi!!

Well, it's wrong to expect that level of quality, but that would've been a great tone to strive for considering the material its based on.

Tomb Raider is an action adventure series. The exact opposite of what The Revenant was.

Maybe not quite like The Revenant, but there some darker sequences in the 2013 game where Lara Croft is basically on her own with no one to come to help in the wilderness. So she has to do what she can to live off the wilderness and survive. So that's the part in the game where you have to start crafting from twigs and stuff and hunting deer to survive.

The moment that almost happens here, the film goes into a completely different direction. It was disappointing.

Exactly. I don't know why people are acting like it was such an out of left field comparison.
