Tomb Raider 2 was held up by
-creative changes (from Wheatley to Green)
-pandemic challenges and pressures (i.e. they want the movie to succeed theatrically maximally and globally)
-Vikander’s pregnancy
-disagreement between Vikander and newest creative direction
-multiple corporate mergers and IP sales
-MGM’s dithering led to loss of license to make movie

It’s not much of a wonder why it hasn’t happened yet.

The odds of Vikander being brought back aren’t zero but they are reduced from even where they stood before. There’s probably a chart out there somewhere of the rare times when something like that happened.

The ideal solution would be for the studio to just bring back Alicia, and take the series in whatever direction they want to. She's already proven herself and there's no rule that says her next Tomb Raider film needs to even acknowledge the first one or continue its plotlines.

Can this happen? If so do it I was wondering why it was being made out she cannot return when they could just do what you suggested.

No news, apologies for the necro post,
Just wondering am I imagining it wrong or was there a version of this where she's also holding a gun?

I'm not sure. Does she ever even use a gun in the movie? She gets her trademark guns at the end as sequel bait.

So...Netflix has animated rights and Amazon has the rest? Well RIP to the animated series.

WB is doing the same thing to DC and I don’t like it. ‘If you don’t enjoy this one flavor of the franchise too bad that’s all there is across all mediums’ instead of different versions.

Does Lara Croft even have a supporting cast that can fill out a "shared universe"? How is that going to work?

I'm very much looking forward to the era where all this shared/connected universes' trend that everyone feels obligated to follow will inevitably pass. It's probably a long road ahead, though.

No she doesn't.

Second of all, what's the point of doing like a big-budget streaming movie if you're already doing a big budget streaming series? Like what is going to be the difference between the movie and the series? Keep in mind, Waller-Bridge isn't even working on the movie right now.

Also, where does the new game fit into all of this? I read earlier that the new Crystal Dynamics game was supposed to be a sequel to Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Also keep in mind, the Netflix animated series is also supposed to be set in the same timeline as the last three games.

Truthfully, I think Hollywood has always overestimated Lara Croft/Tomb Raider. I mean yeah, the games are iconic, that's unquestionable. But the movies have never been good.

I think it might be time to reboot the games series again, honestly. Maybe they should get Hayley Atwell to voice an older more seasoned Lara with a more classic Tomb Raider vibe.

It seems Amazon Studios are quite serious about their Tomb Raider Cinematic Universe.

Warner Bros. Exit Talks Begin For ‘The Lord of the Rings’ & ‘The Hobbit’ Franchises (Exclusive) – Fellowship of Fans
Embracer Group just sold (update: leased) their ‘Tomb Raider’ rights to Amazon for a deal that we can exclusively reveal as being approximately a 600 Million overall package making it Amazon’s second biggest commitment after purchasing the television rights for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’. Therefore, this puts into perspective the cost and (updated) commitments that Embracer maybe looking for.

You guys say there's not enough for a Lara Croft/Tomb Raider shared universe, but you're gonna look pretty foolish when we get a post-credits scene of Lara meeting Pitfall Harry.

And he'll be played by Tom Holland.

Playing the remasters of the OG trilogy, I have come to the opinion that if Hollywood truly wanted to make a successful Tomb Raider movie, they should adapt TR1 and or TR2 into a movie.

TR1 has the best villain in the entire series (Natla), and a very unique take on Atlantis (one that is almost Alien or Hellraiser-ish in its body horror imagery and design), and it has freaking dinosaurs! Seeing Lara Croft fight a damn T-Rex on the big screen would be awesome.

TR2 is basically James Bond meets Indiana Jones with its locations and set pieces that would make for great imagery on screen, and great potential for action.

Give those games the summer blockbuster treatment.
