I'm still working on mine, but you guys are welcome to start it...
Haven't seen The Handmaiden but this list is FIRE. I adore True Grit.I’m doing a “favorite-per-year” list as well. I still feel that initial urge to head on over to IMDb for refreshers on each of the decade’s good-to-great films (by my estimation) and compile them all into one master list... but exhaustion quickly overwhelms that urge.
That and it’s probably just plain impossible for me to feel like any list of such nature of my own making could be satisfying. I’m still lagging behind on my 2012 watchlist(!) (speaking of which, the passing of time has exponentially increased each year beginning with 2012, right?)
Anyways, without further ado, a compromise:
2010: True Grit (perhaps the film that’s grown the most in my estimation this past decade. Utterly indifferent to it at the time of release and up until a 2017 revisit which left me head over heels for it. Really a modern classic in my opinion.)
2011: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (up there on the decade’s most revisited films for me. Tied for best ensamble with...)
2012: Lincoln (my unofficial Holiday favorite. It instills in me, with each viewing, a profound sense of hope. I cling to that a lot these days. Day-Lewis is, naturally, transformative. You’re left with something by his performance that’s akin to the feeling of having made a real friend.)
2013: Inside Llewyn Davis (the strongest connection I’ve felt with a title character maybe ever. Got me, in part, to stand up and step out of a bad situation. I literally sing-along to this movie.)
2014: Hell, I’m feeling nostalgic. Grand Budapest Hotel.
2015: Mad Max: Fury Road
2016: The Handmaiden (breath-taking filmmaking.)
2017: Call Me by Your Name (Michael Stuhlbarg’s closing monologue was everything I felt like I needed to hear from someone at one time in my life. I’m glad it exists for others now.)
2018: First Man, though I’m pretty sure the number of movies I saw from this year is under 10.
2019: The Lighthouse. Again, not definitive (though it’s a strong, strong contender. Could go all the way.)
Oof. Even that was kind of hard.
Still haven't gotten around to watch this.6. Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. Surreal masterpiece about a man dealing with death with the help of his spirits
Another Zero Dark Thirty fan! Also Grand Budapest!I'll do categories later, but these are probably my 10 faves of the decade (in no particular order):
The Social Network
Inception
Zero Dark Thirty
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Mad Max: Fury Road
Sicario
Blade Runner 2049
Roma
Mission: Impossible - Fallout
The Favourite
