5. Kill Your Darlings
6. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
7. Blue Jasmine

When I saw The Place Beyond the Pines in March, I was certain I wouldn't see a better movie all year long. It figures that Scorcese would be the one to prove me wrong. Also, the fact that a movie as great as Mud is number 10 really goes to show you how great 2013 was for film.

1. HER - Just saw my screener. Amazing film in every aspect. Now one of my all time favorites!

2. GRAVITY - Visually stunning, and a directors tour de force. And as a cinematographer, this is the holy grail of cinematography.

3. 12 YEARS A SLAVE - Great acting and some horrible, horrible images. Slavery is one of the ugliest thing in out history.

4. CAPTAIN PHILLIPS - Amazing directing, editing and suspense. Probably the most suspenseful movie since No Country for Old Men.

5. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE - Love the books, love the movie.

6. PRISONERS - The best ensemble work for a thriller ever! Plus that amazing, amazing score!

7. AMERICAN HUSTLE - I liked Silver Lining better, but this was yet another actors grande from O'Russell.

8. SAVING MR. BANKS - Lovely movie that was stolen away from Colin Farrell. Tom Hanks Who?

9. THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY - I loved it. Beautiful and dreamy.

10. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET - Weird, vulgar, and plane shocking. Loved it! Jonah Hill was the shiner here.
