i would have to agree because hercules is good at fighting, given the fact that there is a pole or tree nearby for him to pick up and use as a weapon. unless there was a person strong enough to fight him to test his skills, the best hand to hand combat he has is a simple punch that would blow people away.

Usually since most of his foes are lightweights with low super strength and super durability. Such as his fight against Thor. Thor is easily a good hand to hand fighter. And he admitted Hercules was far better than he. The only reason Thor won that fight at all was because of his control of the weather. That and all those years of training to be a hero and all, and seeing how his preferred method of fighting is hand to hand, and taking into account most mythological beasts he's fought have usually had some fair amount of strength that has tended to give him some heavy challenge. I'll have to disagree that he's only good when he can throw something heavy.
