Top 7 bad habits the media has with videogames

Its not just the media, its anyone who has a platform providing an opinion on something they know NOTHING about. For instance, PeTA has just come out and said that Call of Duty: World at War promotes the slaughtering of animals. Apparently they say the devs included this because its "cool", but not to be accurate to the time frame.

I dont have a problem with someone coming out against GTA or the like. I mean as much as i love GTA, its a pretty vile game, but ppl saying things that just aren't true, such as 'you get points for killing a cop'. Just shows me they really didn't do their home work and are just looking for a quick story.

As someone pursuing a career in this medium, this was a fascinating read for me, and its insane how you just read that and think "...yeah, I know what they mean."

I was watching a UK day time chat show a few years back in the kitchen, my Mum cooking. GTA San Andreas had just came out, and the presenter came out with "Next we look at a video game where you sleep with prostitues for points, and then kill them to get your money back". My Mum turned round with a disgusted look on her face.

Its just incredible how the media is winning the battle over video games for most parents with such generalized and often false reports. I mean, I know my Dad's never going to respect the fact that I'm really invested in this medium, even though I wish he could see the more mature side of gaming, but a lot of this is simply to do with what the media show off to him.

Its a shame really, that we don't get more mature and responsible coverage of our hobby. For everytime a GTA's brought up in the news, where's the mention of a game like Valkyria Chronicles that has a heavy emphasis on wider issues like racism?

So sad, ****ing morons.

The Mass Effect stuff was almost a big win for the industry with how much stuff was made up.

“Currently, nothing under New York State law prohibits a fourteen-year old from walking into a video store and buying... a game like 'Grand Theft Auto,' which rewards a player for stealing cars and beating people up. Children can even simulate having sex with a prostitute...” – former New York governor Eliot Spitzer, who resigned after having non-simulated sex with a prostitute

:lmao:

It's always funny reading those things seeing newscasters talking about something they don't understand and will not actually research, really shows the integrity of the media.

I liked how during the FOX NEWS interview, the host said she went to the website and it asked for her date of birth. And she thought there'd be good security. And then...

She GOT into the site!!

As if there's some kind of code system or password realy for a videogame website to be entered.

Whereas half of the web's porn site are too lazy to even ask for your DOB.
