Torso Next for Fincher?
Plus, Oscar winner to reportedly star as Ness.
by Jim Vejvoda

US, September 4, 2008 - Se7en director David Fincher's next project will reportedly be the long-in-development adaptation of the Brian Michael Bendis graphic novel Torso. Ehren Kruger (The Ring) penned the screenplay adaptation.

According to The Plain Dealer, Paramount Pictures "wants to shoot Torso, a big-budget production that will star Matt Damon as Eliot Ness, early next year in Cleveland. But studio officials say they need incentives to film in the state."

Ness, who had previously brought down Chicago ganglord Al Capone, spearheaded the hunt for the serial killer dubbed the Cleveland Torso Murderer from 1935 to 1938. The killer was never captured and Ness' once promising career tragically ended in failure.

Torso producer Bill Mechanic advised the paper, "We want to shoot the entire movie, the interior and exterior shots, in Cleveland because that's where the action takes place and so we wouldn't have to relocate the crew. But without incentives, it doesn't look like we can afford it."

shouldnt this be in the Misc Comics Film thread. And I could have sworn theres already a thread for this

I never knew Ness had such a history. I'm very interested in the film. And Matt Damon as Ness? Very well cast.

Good to see he has his next project lined up.....Damon would be a very good Ness I think.

Sounds good. Been waiting on this one for awhile now. Damon as Ness definately works.

I wonder if Fincher is telling the world he's secretly a serial killer? :P

It's Fincher so I'll watch it.

consider my ticket purchased

Love the book, and I've always been fascinated with the story since it happened here in Cleveland where I live.

Fincher has long been attached to Torso.
But yeah will he always be associated with serial killer movies
I mean i love the guy and i think he's one of the besy directors out there. But there should be more movies for him to shine then just serial killer flicks

Well, he's done two so far. Se7en is very well made, but I'll admit that it's quite cliché at times. I mean....The old hardened cop, the rookie, the stereotypical cat and mouse game, the foot chase, the phone-call.
But Zodiac is phenomenal. And quite a different movie.

If they stay away from the clichés with this one, I think that the genre still has some spark left. You shouldn't think to limited, creatively possibilities are quite endless. It just needs a hook, a catch, something to make it stand out from a genre that is riddled with clichés.

Anyone familiar with the GN? Is it more of a character-piece about Ness?

God, I want Fincher to work on Black Hole instead of Torso.

It's not that i'm opposed to him making serial killers flicks. As long as it's good i will watch it. I love Se7en for it's acting but i love Zodiac for it's technical achievements. There are shots in there that just blow you away. The CG realism and the way the shots are created are just astounding.
Torso seems be more about the downfall of NEss then a serial killer. So we could get some excellent performances there.

I just want Fincher to create other flicks as well. Expand his horizon. Back when Se7en was released , there was alot of talk of Fincher doing Torso next. He then made Panic Room and followed that up with Zodiac.
He's now busy with Benjamin Button and now is going to make another serial killer flick.

He's been in deals to direct Torso since Se7en? Wow, that's a long time.

Well, Benjamin Button looks like nothing Fincher has ever done....So that should expand his horizon quite a bit. It looks epic aswell. So literally...it seems like a big widened cinematic canvas.

And I agree about Zodiac's shots. Just wow. It should have received some prestigious awards for cinemtography, and directing aswell ofcourse.

Some of those shots are amazing....the shot before Zodiac kills the cabbie is completely CG, but you could never tell. Also love the use of the old music.

Hmmmmmnuuu, hmnuuuuuhnnnuu
Thrown like a star in my vast sleep, I open my eyes to take a peep, To find that I was by the sea, Gazing with tranquility....

I was listening to that friggin song for weeks after.

All the killings of Zodiac are CG. Fincher didn't want to reset everything take after take. He just shot the killings clean and blood etc were added later on.
You can really see it in the shot when the Zodiac begins to stab the couple. The shot is CGI but it's fluid and i was a bit uncomfortable watching it.

But there is far more. The scenes after the taxi driver is killed , is filmed completely against a blue screen with the actors. The shot of the camera following the cab is CG.

Yeah it's incredible. I should get the Director's Cut with the bonus features.

There is a directors cut :wow:

yeah, with some great box art
