96th Annual Academy Awards

I have to say...between the John Cena streaker bit, Burton/Schumacher era-Batman references, a killer I'm Just Ken performance, solid wins across the board, Nolan being coronated by Spielberg, Pacino coming out to present Best Picture like he just rolled out of bed...that's a solid broadcast in my book! Wrapping it all up it under 3 1/2 hours is the icing on top.

Also, Kimmel was asked who should host next on the BS pod last week and he said John Mulaney would be perfect... so I'm assuming this bit was a trial run for him to host next year.

I want him to be the new host so bad. And I know we won't be getting any lame jokes about long movies or RDJ's struggle with addiction from him.

Side-note, because I'll take any opportunity to clown on him, I'm glad that scoopypants Jeff Sneider was absolutely off-target when he said that Poor Things was DOA as a Best Picture contender, and that he didn't see Emma Stone winning. Sure, I don't think anyone believed Poor Things would win the big prize, but Stone winning had to be a smack in the face for him.

And that makes me smile.

Nobody should blame Emma for this. She genuinely gave probably the best performance of her career to date and Gladstone gave an outstanding performance as well. There really wasn't a wrong choice between the two of them.

Well now Emma Stone just needs two more Oscars and she ties with Audrey Hepburn. Frances McDormand just needs one more.

Yes. The biggest upside to all of this is to see Sneider lose miserably again. :splosions:

I'm curious as to how much higher those numbers would be if Taylor Swift was in attendance. :o

Honestly, I was expecting it to be a little higher because of Barbenheimer. But I guess the earlier start time + daylight savings kinda ruined it.

I would say if everyone knew Barbie had a strong chance of winning major awards, it would have done better in the TV ratings.

But at the end of the day, most of the people who go to see films like Barbie or Oppenheimer don't care at all about the awards stuff. It wasn't always this way, but the Oscars chose to drive the audience away from them through the years. Too little, too late to try to grab some of the audience who gave up on the Academy years ago.
