Hasbro released 20th anniversary Prime at the same time as Takara did MP-01.

Why does Magnus look like Prime sometimes? I've never read the comics.
Same time you say?????
If they came out at the same time I wouldnt have had to buy the Takara version.....well maybe not.... any way.
Takara's MP-01 was released December of 2003 while Hasbro's 20th anniversary Prime was not released till March/April of 2004.
Because the G1's Ultra Magnus toy was originally based on the G1 Optimus Prime toy.
The front cap of Optimus Prime was used as the front cap of Ultra Magnus in truck mode.
And if you only transformed the cap he was a white colored copy of Prime.
Here are some pic's.

Jesus, Magnus has been through a lotYou mean why is it Prime painted white? Long story. The begining is, as with most things TF, in the Diaclones. You see Diaclone Convoy came in two versions. Battle Convoy and Armoured Convoy. Battle Convoy became Optimus, and Armoured Convoy became Ultra Magnus. After Hasbro swapped out Armoured Convoys crimson/navy blue/black colours to the candyapple red/sky blue/white of Ultra Magnus (originally they were going to use Diaclone colours, but t'was changed cause it didn't work on screen) the toy box art featured the cab in robot mode. Fast forward 17 years and Dreamwave decided to work in the cab robot mode. One of their G1 story line revealed that Ultra Magnus was a white clone of Prime who's trailer formed a suit of armour that totally changed his outward appearance. It's also where they were made brothers.

I suggest you write an angry email to Transformers wiki then.Same time you say?????

*wipes tear*If you have MP Prime you need MP Megatron. They complement each other perfectly.

Those be rumours. Takara has given no official word on it. So there is no release date.
-The first MP was Prime (V.1, MP-01), this was released in 2004.
-Followed by Ultra Magnus (MP-02) in 2005.
-Then Starscream (V.1, MP-03) and Optimus Prime (V.2, MP-04) in 2006.
-Megatron (MP-05), Starscream (V2, MP-03), and Skywarp (MP-06) in 2007.
Those are just Takara's Japanese releases. Hasbro released 20th anniversary Prime at the same time as Takara did MP-01. It has battle damage and short stacks. The re-released it in 2006 with classics with a blue gun, a base that spooted movie phrases, and no chrome. In 2007 Hasbro released MP Starscream. It differed from MP-03 in that it was in G1 cartoon colours rather than a more realistic (for the Japanese ASDF anyway) sea foam green. Takara then released a second version of MP SS as a USA edition, that is Hasbro version. Also the MP jets come with sticker sets. Some are G1 esque colour lines for the wing edges and other are unit badges from the Japanese ASDF.
Some other things MP-04 comes with a fully transforming trailer, but no roller. And it's now outragiously expensive. $250-$400 being average in an open auction on ebay. Justitoys made a non-tranforming trailer that works well enough. Justitoys also made the stock and silencer parts for Megatron. Ultra Magnus comes with a cardboard cut out trialer.
