Transformers trailer thread (Drak approved)

Oh the Wii comment is interesting. I don't really agree because I trust Myamoto and Nitntendo more than Michael Bay and with Twilight Princess, Wii Sports and all the first party support next year Wii has proven itself as at least a secondary system. The third party support will decide if it will continue to trounce PS3, and at this rate with exclusives jumping ship I htink 3rd party support being strong for the Wii may indeed be possible.

Back on topic from that analogy, I just don't see this movie gelling. And SM3 looks promising to me as it sold its trailer on high stakes drama and character struggles as well as great action. This trailer was all explosions. No surprise though.

Tranformers is a pop corn flick and always was going to be. If this is a teaser then can't wait for the bigger trailer. Where are you Pirates 3 for Shrek 3 and Transformers has there its time for the best teaser trailer. I am kinda glad Pirates is taking it time to get a good trailer but i want to see that most .

I hate Bay as much as the next guy, but if ever there was material made for him, it's this. I love transormers, and they crafted a pretty nice mythology for them, but deep it aint.

I completely agree. While I was a fan of the Transformers as a kid, I am in no way a die hard fan and don't know a lot of the mythology, so it probably won't matter as much to me if they screw with it.

And liek you said, I expect a Transformers movie to have big robots blowing **** up and chasing each other, which is the one thing Michael Bay excels at.

Like SR making budget might be the best it can manage give the packed year and the fact it opens the same day as Die Hard and Potter opens a week later

Here's an Optimus avvy for anyone that wants it

I want it. Thanks hunter. :cwink:

Meh, I'm still not sure how I feel about this. :csad: The trailer really didn't excite me as I hoped it would. I'm guessing I won't know how I truly feel about it until I actually see the film.

I'm not gonna debate the rest of what you said as that is all fair differing opinion but this is a false comparison, that was a full SM3 trailer this is just a teaser hence the fact the SM3 one had a lot more dialogue plus it's just as well it had the great character stuff as the action part wasn't that great in it especially with some ropey CGI IMO

The trailer was better than I thought - no one-liners, at least -, but in all honesty... I liked the first Shrek - thought the second was just okay - , really liked the last two Harry Potters, am a huge fan of the Simpsons - the early seasons anyway - but quite frankly, the Spider-Man 3 first teaser was the only one for a 2007 summer movie that really knocked my socks off. It´s the only one that has a real impact.

Might be a good movie, but so radically changing the designs (and making them look like pure crap, at that) prevents this from being a good TF film. I wouldn't have minded a little variation, but they don't look ANYTHING close to the original designs.

It's like making Superman wear a trenchcoat. It's not right.

I agree that the original SM3 teaser was better than the full trailer from a visual standpoint but i found neither got the blood pumping like this one or The Live Free or Die Hard one

I actually like a lot of the new designs better but from a hardcore fanboy point i can see why they feel it could be a good TF movie but not a good TF movie based on their original favs

I just saw it, and it´s damn cool.
The trailer is very good, and i have nothing against Michael Bay, in fact, as popcorn directors go, i think he is one of the best.
But i still find it to be the movie version of Wii.
Everyone will see it for the novelty and nostalgy...but i can´t see it having legs to walk (the Wii remark was beause many people bought it, and 90%, for the novelty of it, not because i think it doesn´t have legs to walk).
It might be a huge sucess, but, will people get interested in seeing it for more than an action movie?
Will people actually care for giant robots fighting each other?

if the writers had done a better job, people would care deeply for the robot characters

We don't know what job the writers did, they may have changed them from the original but only the hardcore will care, they could have written really engaging character in their place and we don't even know how much they have changed on the character front

Engaing characters in a Michael Bay movie about giant robots....riight.

The trailer impressed the pants off of me. Having never been a fan of the TV show, I was never interested in this project. After seeing the trailer, it may be in my top 10 must see movies of 07.

speaking from the draft i've read, the writers didn't do a great job with the transformers as characters. they're like scenery to the human story.

Maybe not to you but whatever and as for them being more like scenery,i guess in a movie the humans were always gonna have more of the personality

This didn´t get my blood pumping. Maybe it´s because I wasn´t a big Transformers fan as a kid - I love Transformers The Movie though -, but this was nothing to wet my pants on. I mean, even seeing a car turn into a robot is nothing new now - we seen it in fan videos, commercials, etc. They waited too long to do this. And it still looks a lot like a Michael Bay movie, which in my book is never a good sign.

I thought the tone and epic feel of this trailer surpassed everything Ive seen for next years offerings,to be honest most of the supposed big movies (SM3,Potter,Shrek,POTC3)Are merely ones I'll see when i get the chance, only TF,Bourne and Die Hard are must sees for me

It has a kind of War Of The Worlds feel, which is nice, but I prefer the inner light and darkness conflict of Spider-Man 3. If I know Bay, all the apparent epicism will be dilluted by cheesiness. Info about the script so far is nothing to write home about.

I don't know,Raimi loves his cheese as well and ive seen Bay get it right before plus Ive seen two Spidey movies already and there are like 2 comic book movies every year(3 next year)im just a bit burnt out as most underwhelm me

Difference is, Raimi knows how to balance out the cheesier elements with the serious stuff, Bay is a gigantic sack of rotten gorgonzola. I can´t stand ten minutes of Armageddon, the first 45 minutes of Pearl Harbor made me want to vomit and half of the time on The Island I was thinking, "what an amazing movie this had potential to be... if it was someone else directing it".

I wouldn't say Raimi balances it out well at all but i like a bit of heart on sleeve,as for Armageddon i love that film and The Island i thought was good but could have been better if it had a better ending but that was the script

Truth is i am just weary of endless superho movie i guess

To me he does, a hundred times better than Bay anyway. Well, as long as there are good characters and good stories to tell, I won´t be tired of superhero movies. I dunno how cars who turn into giant robots have something better or more unusual to offer anyway.
