Travel from NY to SF in One Hour at 4,000mph

Take my word and come back and quote it...none of us in here will see a public transportation unit going 4,000 mph in our lifetime for $100.

I want this yesterday.

Quote:

"...the design allows for one/one-hundredth the energy needs of conventional systems, with a 90 percent reduction in materials. The system provides 50 times more transportation per kilowatt-hour than electric cars or rail transportation, and has variable speeds for local, domestic, or international travel. The company claims that the tubes can be built for a tenth the cost of high speed rail systems, and nearly a quarter the cost of a freeway."

We already had this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTjapw2sVV4I

Now can we just get started on building my flying armored magnetic horse torso already!
What the frac is the delay on these things?

I'm tired of "idea announcements" I wanna see some experiments

I just found this. Related to traffic than hypervelocity.

Insane Traffic-Straddling Bus May Come to America

http://inhabitat.com/insane-traffic-straddling-bus-may-come-to-america/

Remember that odd-looking straddling bus that we covered a few months ago? The lane-straddling monstrosity might soon be headed to the U.S. Developed by Shenzhen Hashi Future Parking Equipment Co., the bus can straddle up to two lanes of traffic — allowing regular vehicles to go under what is essentially an above-ground subway system. Vehicle drivers, beware.

Shenzhen’s bus can reportedly hold 1200 to 1400 passengers and could cut traffic jams by 20% to 30%. The partially solar-powered system can travel up to 50 mph — and it’s coming to China in 2011.

Next up: bringing the system to the U.S. Song Youzhou of Shenzhen Hashi announced this week that he formed a company (U.S. Elevated High-Speed Bus) to develop the bus system in America. U.S. residents might have to wait awhile — Youzhou is still looking for manufacturers.

I remember that bus but nothing's been said of it in years. That's from nearly 3 years ago.

I'd actually be more interested in flying from San Francisco to New York.

Fascinating concept, but it feels as if there are too many failure variables to make it anywhere near a viable, or indeed, safe proposition for mass transit.

Flying was dangerous when it first started becoming a reality and it still has disasters today but the frequency is actually quite low compared to driving on a road so I expect any disasters that involve this will get the same exaggerated media reporting when they do occur.

If this works out, it'll forever change the cultural separation between NoCal and SoCal.

Not for cargo and shipping though. Even if the Hyperloop is use just for that costs for goods that are imported/exported will plummet dramatically, those price drops will then be passed on to the consumer. In theory Hyperloop at worst can make things cheaper. If a disaster happens all you've lost are goods.

It would be the closest thing to a teleporter if you could get something across the country in an hour. Flying has a lot of prep time no matter how fast it is.

It will changed how we commute. One of the biggest problems in my country at least is there's very little work opportunities outside the major cities. A Hyperloop would in theory allow people who live hundreds of kilometres away the chance to travel to one of the major cities daily for work. With that mode of transport available people would be more willing to live further away, this would also help with traffic congestion as fewer cars will be on the roads.

He reminds me of Wells from the Flash.
