In a few days I'll be staying in New York for a week, checking out the comic shops etc. It' ll be my first visit to NY. Any pointers where to go besides the obvious places like Statue Of Liberty, Empire State Building etc.?

I also want to see T4 in Imax, what's the best theater to go to? One that's not too crowded if that's even possible.

And one more question, what's the best way to travel from JFK Intl. to Astor on the Park (the hotel I'll be staying) near Central Park, i've googled it a few times but didn't find anything.

New York, New York, it's a hell of a town
The schoolyard's up, and the shopping mall's down

The stray dogs go to the animal pound

heres some tips pal if your going to New York
1. dont look like a tourist
2. dont look anyone in the eye
3. dont be nice to anyone

follow these tips and your fine

Thanks guys, I' ll carry around a digital reflex camera so I'll stick out like a sore thumb.

Any advice on how to get to the hotel?

The museum on Ellis Island is pretty cool, and you MUST go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They've got so much awesome stuff there you'll never see it all.

Cheap "designer" sunglasses on Canal St.

Lucky, lucky. I love New York city...I've been there like 5 times. I pretty sure I'll move there when I am older.

I just highly recommend you go to Coney Island because on the news they said they were going to be closing a whole chunk of it down and build some hotel or something (I don't know why but thats what they want unfortunately :whatever: ). Also the Hurricane is really one of the best coasters ever its really fun (thank goodness they can't close it down since its a landmark)

Marvel Comics. They used to give tours through the offices.

When you said you were staying for one week and wanted to see T4 in IMAX I was like...it's coming out this month?

So thank you for reminding me.

And for that:

Lincoln Sq IMAX is the ****.

I think it's funny that two of the things you're looking most forward to are the comic stores and seeing T4.

I live in NY and if you need someone to show you around I would be more that happy to. I will look into the travel from the airport to central park for you as well.

Who gives a **** about that Broadway **** and the Met? I want to see if they got the most recent arc of Wolverine vs. Hulk!

Are you saying that you don't go to famous cities only to check out the comic stores?

I'm so sick of NYC.

Hahaha the stores are the reason I'm going to NY! I hope to finally have a chance to fill in the gaps off my TEC and Batman collection! After that we'll see if there's time to visit the tourists sites. :applaud

And because we have some big plans coming up this or next year, I'm guessing this will be my last vacation this far abroad.

As for T4, I really want to see a movie on a big ass Imax screen, we don't have those in Holland.

You have to hit Midtown Comics on 40th street and 7th Ave it's the holy grail of comic shops ;)

You should totally check out the Baxter Building.

Well, if he goes to 4 time square, it's a building with 4's up top

When I visited there last November, I went to this exhibition called "Bodies". It's a tour of all the systems in the human body using real humans. It's a lil disturbing at first, but I'm really glad I went.

Fascinating stuff.

I hate midtown comics. Hate

I lived in NY for a decade and know the city pretty well.

From JFK to the central park hotel, you're best bet being from out of town is taking a taxi door to door. Between the aggravation and unreliability of other means of transportation, this is you're best bet. There's a flat fee of something like $35 for the cab ride from the airport to anywhere in Manhattan.

A great little museum to check out is in the village on Broadway called the Museum of Cartoon and Comic Art. Here's their website: mocca.org

A few other places I recommend:
Cloisters (Bronx)
Forbidden Planet (comic book shop near the Strand bookstore in the Village)
NY Aquarium at Coney Island
The Guggenheim (Upper East Side)
H&H Bagels (Upper West Side) - because they're the best bagels in the city
Sam's Falafel - hole in the wall middle eastern place that's Amazing (Thompson south of LaGuardia)
As for the IMAX: Union Square Theater on 14th Street. Best non-crowded times are the showings in the afternoons (that is, if they have them at that time)
Brooklyn: Brooklyn Botanical Garden - not as huge as NY Botanical Garden but good enough and is a good escape.

PM me if you have any specific questions or restaurant recommendations based on location or type of food.

The steps to get up and in are dangerous as ****.

True. I effing hate those steps.
