USA Network has ordered four hourlong scripted pilots, including Treadstone, an action-packed drama that delves into the CIA black ops program known as Operation Treadstone from Universal Pictures’ Bourne film franchise. It hails from Heroes creator Tim Kring.

Written by Kring, Treadstone explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins. The series follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions.

Kring executive produces with Ramin Bahrani, who will direct the pilot. Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner executive produce on behalf of Captivate and Justin Levy will executive produce alongside Bradley Thomas for Imperative Entertainment.

USA Network Drama Pilot Orders: ‘Bourne’ Offshoot ‘Treadstone’

Looking forward to this,Ive often thought that the Bourne films might be better if adapted into a series rather than a feature film, so I guess this is the closest I'm gonna get to this.

Huh. I'm wary of anything to do with Kring. After the first season of Heroes, he hasn't produced anything worth watching.

Sounds intriguing to focus on Treadstone and other assassins for the show! The world of Jason Bourne will live on, even if he doesn’t appear!

Maybe they'll pull a "Bourne Legacy", mentioning his name every five minutes and frequently flashing his picture on computer screens, lol.

Might be worth an investment, providing none of these agents suddenly find out they have superpowers... :hehe:

I can see it being pretty good for a while but then slipping into generic mediocrity. Hope I'm wrong.

I wish the entire premise of the series took place at the CIA offices in Langley and every once in a while Jason Bourne would call to troll them and let them know he's still out there. :o

Ordered to series.

USA Orders 'Bourne' TV Series 'Treadstone'

USA is moving ahead with its TV take on the popular Jason Bourne film franchise, giving a series order to Treadstone.

The project, an action thriller about a black ops CIA program, gets the nod for a full series before even producing a pilot, evidence of the network's clear excitement over bringing the franchise to TV.

With production set to begin in 2019, the first season will follow sleeper agents — none of them played by Matt Damon — across the globe as they're instructed to carry out deadly missions.

USA ordered a number of pilots earlier this summer — Treadstone being the buzziest — with the Rosario Dawson-led Briarpatch, the Megan Abbott adaptation Dare Me and Denis Leary and Alex Cary's Erase also among the crop.

‘Bourne’ Drama Series ‘Treadstone’ Rounds Out Cast: Omar Metwally, Tracy Ifeachor, More

Metwally will play Mr. Edwards, a CIA agent who was ostracized by his colleagues after making a decision that left a fellow operative dead. His willingness to make the hard choice positions him as the most qualified agent for a stealth mission.

Ifeachor will portray Tara Coleman, an investigative journalist who has turned her back on her career after getting too close to a dangerous truth. Now she must put the past behind her to get to the bottom of an international conspiracy.

Han is SoYun, a wife and mother who must make difficult choices that compromise her quiet family life in North Korea after she starts to learn about her own secret past.

Scharnitzky will play Petra, a no-nonsense Russian patriot who has committed her life to her country but has deep-seated knowledge of Russian tactics that come into play when she is betrayed.

Schüle will portray a Russian KGB agent who will stop at nothing to promote the agenda of her motherland.

Looks solid and I like the actors involved. But I worry that after the fist few episodes it will fizzle out. Hopefully not though.

It does look interesting so definitely on my radar.

Another Bourne Movie Is In The Works, And It'll Tie Into The Treadstone TV Show

Three years after Jason Bourne, the Bourne franchise is coming back very soon to USA with a spinoff series called Treadstone. The show, which is primarily set within the present day, follows a number of sleeper agents after the supposed shuttering of Treadstone years prior. Treadstone will expand the lore of the franchise and fill in the blanks fans of the films have been searching for, and according to executive producer Ben Smith, it will also play into a new Bourne film, which is in the works.

Ben Smith, who is a producer of the films and Treadstone, confirmed the news while speaking to CinemaBlend about the upcoming spy and sleeper agent series. Smith couldn't provide explicit details, but did confirm there will be connections between the next movie and the new series. He said:

I mean we are definitely working on another film. What we're doing within that? Will there be connected tissue in terms of are we all existing within the same world and universe? Absolutely. The details of that are still under wraps.

Now the the commercials are out that seems precisely where they are going. Just like Jason Bourne someone wakes up with a super power.

The entire sleeper agent thing where basic training makes one super, along with Threadstone drugs in this case, is kind of silly. SWAT and special forces types are not special because of hell week, they are special because they are in constant practice for the day when the combat skill is needed. Yet a sleeper, unless his cover is as a MMA fighting sport combat arms shooter can't keep his skills sharp and maintain his cover that he will one day wake up and utilize.

Just saying a sleeper agent should be more Jim Rockford, lucky to sneak in a punch as he runs away than Rambo.

First episode was decent. The action is superb for something on TV. As much as I love the world of Bourne, I'm mostly watching for Han Hyo Joo though :ilv:

That's pretty much the sole reason.

I liked it, so I’ll keep watching for now. The action was incredibly well done for tv. That bar fight was great.

Not a fan of the whole "Superpowered/Winter Soldier" thing, but I'll give it a couple more episodes and see from there.

I feel like the first episode introduced too much at once though.

I love the trilogy, I even like the last two movies but that thing was very poorly written.
