mods can close this if it doesn't get any traffic, but i figured since its old there wouldn't be a thread on it. So yah...TREASURE PLANET. 8 years later, what do you guys think of this movie. haven't seen it in forever, but i remember liking it when i was a kid, (my memories were spurred by somebody posting a bit of the score over in another thread)

I love this movie! I'd love to own it it on Blu-ray. This was the film that put a nail in the coffin for Disney 2D animation. They spent a fortune on it and it was a bomb. John Musker and Ron Clements brought the idea for the movie to Katzenberg when he was the head of Disney Feature Animation he told them it was going to bomb, which he was right. The directors John and Ron went over Katzenberg's head and brought the idea to Roy Disney and Eisner and they approved of it. While in production Dreamworks 2D animation studio put money a lot of money into the Prince of Egypt which intimidated Disney. Disney believed they had to be the standard in 2D animation and of it's excellence so they had to beat Dreamworks on that level, they were threatened. There was the Eisner Katzenberg rival. So right off the bat Disney put a lot of their money into Tarzan, then into Treasure Planet also Atlantis. Tarzan was a hit but Treasure Planet was such a bomb and so was Atlantis, the execs blamed the animators for the films failures. When actually the execs had their hands in every aspect of creativity in the films. The Dreamworks 2D animated films were also very unsuccessful at the box office. But they were beautifully animated, from an artistic stand point they out did Disney. If you ask people what studio made the Dreamworks films they think it was Disney. On a side note,Walt Disney's motto, we find every child in every adult. The Dreamworks motto, we find the adult in every child. I kid you not that is what Katzenberg said in one of the interviews on the DVDs.

When i was younger i remember loving it, don't see the film in ages. Never understood the hate this and Atlantis got, it's a shame that both of them failed. Had Atlantis been a success they would have made a tv show about myths and legends, and if that DVD sequel was any indication it would have been awesome, instead Emperor's new Groove got a tv show.

This is one of the best Disney animated films and I think one of the most under appreciated. Mostly it gets a bad rap because 3D animation was newly introduced, this one wasn't a musical, and taking the story into a space bound environment was too strange for the audience. It probably would have been better if they simply did adapt Treasure Island as it was literally set.

I remember loving it when it came out. I have the DVD but I haven't watched it since I got it (which was Christmas of... whatever year that was). I've been meaning to rewatch it for ages, but always forget. Thanks for the reminder, DarkSovereignty.

I bought this film on Blu-ray a week ago, and I still love it!

This movie was awesome. I remember watching it in IMAX (the real one) and it was breathtaking. Never understood why it got such a bad wrap.
