This was awesomeness. Can't wait to own it.

I agree about the movies you brought up, but find it funny that you equate a lack of profanity with dumbing down. Isn't it usually the opposite? TT was incredibly funny, but it was far from cerebral.

...I think when he says "dumbed-down", he means edited for a pg-13 rating. You can only have but so much profanity before it gets the R rating. The moeny is made with the under 17 crowd, when it comes to comdies, most times, so studios go for the pg-13.

Yeah, but alof of the R rated Comedy has done better then the PG-13 ones.

Wow, this made nearly 40 million in 5 days after a Wednesday opening. It will make a profit here in the States and that is a good thing because I really liked this movie.

Non-spoiler review! This movie was pretty good, considering that I usually hate Stiller comedies. Some things I liked:

-The movie’s a send-up for self-important Hollywood movies that clog the cinema pipes nowadays, amongst many other pop culture references. It takes a lot of balls to satirize the things they do, but it takes even more talent to make it work and avoid becoming the things they parody.

-I may not have much love for Ben Stiller, but the man can definitely direct. Maybe it’s because I just saw Platoon for the first time last week, but that was the one that I saw referenced the most. It also seemed to reference Apocalypse Now. But that’s not the real feat. It’s that Stiller can replicate the composition of a Stone film and still leave enough breathing room for the silliness going on.

-Some of the jokes…well, I can’t really repeat them. But they were hilarious; I haven’t laughed this hard in a film in a long time. This has all of the charm of a Mel Brooks film without losing steam like the last part of Blazing Saddles.

Now for the “meh”:

-The whole Simple Jack issue has become way too exaggerated. It’s not mean, and if you laugh at it in that way that says more about you than the film itself. But my complaint isn’t that they did it. It’s that it wasn’t very funny. Downey’s blackface was funny because it had that Downey magic and a good point to make. The Simple Jack jokes seem to have a point, but it’s a vague one. That wouldn’t be an issue if they didn’t extend it as long as they did, but it’s a running gag that goes through the entire film.

-There are a few scenes in the film that could’ve been trimmed. It’s just a few and they’re spaced out well enough, but one that comes to mind as unnecessary would be the panda bit. Another would be the way they end the film- Tom Cruise’s role in this film was hilarious (he plays the evil villain part disturbingly well), but after a few seconds of the last scene I got a little tired.

Besides that, though, this film is really good. Better than Blazing Saddles, which says a lot, but not quite flawless. Still, certainly a great comedy that only comes around once in a full blue moon. Check it out if you haven’t already.

So am I the only one left wondering what happened to [blackout]Nick Nolte's character at the end after he blew up the bridge[/blackout]??

And was I the only one expecting him to [blackout]deflect the missile with his hands, thus actually making him lose his hands almost exactly the same way it happened in his lie[/blackout]?

He was on the chopper. And I did think he was going to actually stop the rpg like you said! It would have been hilarious.

What we don't know is what happened to
Mathew's character after he saved them. They kind of just left him and he ran off into the woods. I was hoping he would get shot or captured...:woot:

How did that agent even get to the jungle? Wonder Woman's invisible jet plane or something?

Yeah, I was expecting him to die, but he just ran away unharmed

There was just something hilarious about how random and ridiculous that appearance was in that scene. Making fun of DEMs in movies, I suppose.

And I looked as hard as I could, but I never did catch a glimpse of him in the chopper, Chaseter. Perhaps I just blinked too long or something lol.

They Showed Matthew's character in a plane back to America in the credits or before the credits.

He took the new G5 to the bush and did the TiVo bit and was able to run away and escape back to his plane. Pretty simply executed really.

I figured as much, but since I didn't remember him solidifying the deal with Grossman it kind've threw me off.

Everybody's talking about RDJ's performance (and rightfully so), but for me, personally, Tom made the movie. I thought he would just have some crazy cameo - I never dreamed that he would have a big role. When he took that remote in his hand at the end and started dancing, I was crying from laughing so hard.

I don't know, the trailer had Tobey wanting and RDJ refusing. So it could go both ways :o.

Satan's Alley would be epic. At the very least, they should orchestrate a cameo in the Iron Man or Spidey films making a reference to this. It's too good to pass up.

****ing awesome movie. Can't wait for the DVD to come out.

Oh, and with Satan's Alley, was anybody taken back to Wonder Boys where the two of them (RDJ and TM) slept together? :woot:

*goes off to video store*

seriously though satan's alley would be epic. I would go see it till they told me to leave. When Tobey started stroking his beads I lost it.
