I assume Ledger will be nominated for Supporting actor?

If so I honestly don't know who I'd prefer to win, Downey Jr or Ledger.

RDJ has plenty of opportunities to win future Oscars; this is it for Ledger.

Watched it again today...totally deserving of a nomination. Have you seen it yet?

Just watched it last night. Thought it was pretty good.

I can't tell you how many times I bursted out yelling, "WTF?!" while laughing.

My favorite part? The end when they're about to leave when Speedman wants to go back saying he has 'a son' and that everything will be alright...then cut to sounds of gunfire and him running back toward the helicopter. Then of course him throwing his 'son' off the bridge topped it all...Lol.

Another good one was when they entered the camp to save Speedman and Jack Black grabs the kid warlord to take him to the drugs and yells, "DON'T JUDGE ME!"...that was great!

And i'll admit, though Cruise lost a lot of my respect the past few years, he was pretty freakin' hilarious in this one.

Overall, 8/10 :woot:

Has anyone listened to the commentary with RDJ pulling off 3 characters and himself with Black and Stiller? Amazingly good.

Ya know I picked this up on Blu-Ray on its release as a pure blind buy and I sure do love it. I've seen it three times since and to me what makes a worthy comedy is one where the jokes hold up upon repeated viewings. This is certainly true with this movie. Robert is amazing and its the first time in awhile I've enjoyed Tom Cruise.

I'll be rooting for RDJ should he get the Oscar nom. An acceptance speech no one would wanna miss.

The commentary track was excellent. One of the more memorable tracks I've listened to.

The switch to Lazarus was great.

He does deserve a nomination even a win, but I think Ledger has this one in the bag.

I always thought he deserved a nomination. But Ledger should win. Too bad though.

Ledger's getting the nod because he's dead....Eckhardt did more work as an actor and should get the nod but won't....Hollywood is all about making grand gestures and in death, all accomplishments look grand....

the commentary on Tropic Thunder is fantastic....my favorite so far...my 2 other favorites are robert englund, Ken Kirzinger(Jason), and Ronny Yu on Freddy vs Jason....and David Goyer, Jessical Biel, and Ryan Reynolds on Blade Trinity

I saw it a couple nights ago & I liked it alot. Though, Tom Cruise wasn't as great as some have been saying. Best comedy since Borat, IMO.

8.7/10

I disagree. He's not. He was getting Oscar buzz even before his death. He was gonna get nominated either way. I don't think the academy thinks like that at all. James Dean? Didn't win. It's about acknowledging a great actor. That's what the oscar's are about. Someone being dead doesn't change anything in how we see their performance.

Death makes people emotional, emotions can affect judgment....academy members are people, and people are emotional...Hollywood people more so....

I understand some fanboys NEED Ledger to get nominated and to win so that the genre can be seen as "legit" so they'll convince themselves he deserves it....I get it

He does deserve it. Didn't I mention James Dean? Didn't he get nominated after he dies twice or something and still didn't win after he died? Ledger stands out among everyone else.

And what's so bad about a comic book film that deserves its recognition? If it's one CBM that can do it, it's TDK. Batman fan or non Batman fan, who wouldn't want to see a CBM get nominated and win? And we're not trying to prove anything. It's a damn good film and should be reconized with actually the knowledge that, yes, it is a comic book film. The film proved what the genre can really be. We can hold it over our heads and say, "This is what it's really about."

I hope you're not thinking the way the academy does or some critics who believe just because it's a comic book film that it doesn't deserve it's Oscar because theres more deserving films than a comic book film. I don't think there is one film that deserves it more than TDK. The other are your typical Oscar bait that we've seen a million times, that frankly, alot of people are tired about.

...but I think that is how a good number of Academy members think, that it is "just a comic book film"....I love that CBF's are becoming a dominant genre and can make tons more than conventional films....

The Oscars aren't about popularity, they are supposed to be about excellence in film....but at the end of the day, no one cares what you won an Oscar for, just that you won an Oscar

And that is a very sad thing, really.

For the sake of the thread.

:calms down:

Now...this has nothing to do with me wanting the genre to be seen as legit.

This has to do with me feeling that Heath's performance was/is one of the most memorable performances I have ever seen from an actor. This has nothing to do with me being some overzealous fanboy.

EVERYONE brought their A-game to TDK...Heath was just on a whole different level, the voice, the mannerisms and nuances he created for the Joker--it was the COMPLETE PACKAGE and you could just tell he put his heart and soul into this performance. Just as he did as Ennis del Mar, Tom Hanks in Philidelphia, Denzel Washington in Training Day, etc.

THAT is why I feel he deserves to be nominated and possibly win...his performance was that good.

IMO.

RDJ vs. Ledger is a tough one. I peronally enjoyed Kirk Lazarus more than Joker.

Comprimise. Ledger wins best supporting actor. RDJ gets best actor for Iron Man and makes an acceptance speech as Kirk Lazarus or Lincoln Osiris? It's win-win for everyone!

Yey!

Heath should win. And I said this the moment I saw the second trailer....BEFORE HE DIED.

Exactly! I'm glad you brought it up. Someone who thinks and isn't all fanboy about something.

Its like nobody gave a care before his death, Its just insane how these people act.

After the theatrical trailer waa released, people were immediately thinking Oscar. Everyone didn't suddenly start caring about his role on January 23rd, 2008.
