Tse's script

Dude, I'm working off a script from Alex Tse dated 10 November 2006.

Snyder was definitely onvolved by then!

but snyders statements about rewriting the script were made after he was officially announced as the director, after 300 premiered in March of 2007

Snyder was officially announced as the chosen diector of Watchmen over a year ago now, back in June 2006 after Warner Bros saw what he was doing for them with 300 PRIOR to completion of that movie and long before its general release.

That (in)famous test shot of Rorschach that Snyder slipped into one of his 300 trailers? Created on the set (such as it was) before filming was over.

Around November/December time last year as I recall, Snyder was widely quoted across fan sites as stating that Tse had now nailed the script and that he'd turned in a version to the studio that represented the vision he intended to bring to the screen.

Which doesn't bode well, considerin' I've got sight of a copy emblazoned with the date NOV. 10 2006 on the front...

Written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, Watchmen was originally published by DC comics as a 12-issue comic book series between 1986 and 1987, before subsequently being collected into a trade paperback. It is the only graphic novel to win the prestigious Hugo Award or to be named among Time magazine’s “100 Best English Language Novels from 1923 to the Present.” Director Zack Snyder will appear in-person to discuss the upcoming film and answer questions. I've said it before... and I'll say it again (militant that I am.)

Anyone here going to Comic Con on Friday 27th who feels like standing up and takin' Snyder-Man to task on his proposed 'vision' for Watchmen? (y'know... Rorschach Lite, The Watchmen & The New Watchmen, a distinct lack of Space Squid action, and a dead Veidt.)

I don't seriously expect him to give away ANY plot points or to confirm or deny anything in his script - I just wanna see how much he squirms when put on the spot so as to get an accurate reading on the BS Detector.

He will answer that "Watchmen: the movie" is an adaptation of "Watchmen: the Graphic Novel" and as in all adaptations, some liberties are allowed.

There's understandable liberties necessary as part of the adaptive process betwixt page and screen... then there's damn well DIABOLICAL liberties that just mess with and dumb-down the original for the sake of a buck...

I just wanna hear someone ask him outright - "Are you killing Adrian Veidt?"

Even in the absence of a simple Yes or No answer which, in all honesty, I entirely expect... I think we'll still get some indication of which way Snyder intends to jump with Watchmen on account of the amount of movie-flannel-speak and spin he attempts to attach to his response...

Can someone going to Comic Con yell at Snyder not to include any nu-metal?

Thanks!

:cwink:

I haven't read the script. So if these are all mentioned in that then please let me know...

Does anyone have the script for the new Harry Potter movie?

What??? why are you all looking at me like that?

I just like magic is all...

i'll do that.

Cryptic Name is gonna ask the Veidt question, I'm going for sure.

Any decent questions you want me to straight up ask? I can only ask one, so yeah..

Whats nu-metal? I don't think I've ever heard it.

Its just a heavy sounding riff within music, thats kept along throughout the song and most of the songs on a certain bands cd.

Examples, Drowning Pool, Disturbed, Papa Roach, Mudvayne, 36 Crazyfists, System of a Down, all these bands are considered new metal. Its just a heavier form of your older style metal.

Many of the riffs have a sort of "chug-chug-chug-chugchuggchugchuuuuug" sound to them. Hmm, don't know if that helps any.

cryptic name, ask that question of Snyder and you will earn my undying respect, sir. Thanks, man!

And Tristantulanka - bit more long-winded, but you could try with:

Why change The Minutemen to The Watchmen, and The Crimebusters to The New Watchmen? Doesn't that simply dumb-down the very specific meanings that Alan Moore had in mind when he chose the term WATCHMEN to be his title?

Hit Snyder with that and you, Tristantulanka, automatically become elevated to the position of God Among Insects.

If you dont have the intelligence or skill to adapt The Watchmen, what would make you think you could? All the Moore adapatations have been pretty weak translations to screen, though V was a good movie. The very idea of this not being in 1985 alone is absolutely ridiculous. You cant handle updating it to modern times, the weight of The Watchmen's own greatness will collapse ontop of your stupid ass mind in the process.

i'll do that.
Please do. And also ask, as Captain Carnage said, about the change of the names of The Minutemen and The Crimebusters to The Watchmen and The New Watchmen, respectively.

If Snyder answers "Yes" to the first, he's in for a load of trouble. That's what I always loved so much about Watchmen - the bad guy got away with it (sorta).

hah. that is definitely a better worded way than i could have done.

i'm asking it. unless of course they don't have time to answer all the questions.

Was Tales of the Black Freighter included in anyway in the script. Snyder has said a few times around 300 that he's been the only director that wanted to do it and would like to put it on DVD if the film runs to long.

How did they incorporate the comic book scenes if the scripts you read had them?

Hey, if the movie sucks we can have at least a nice acronym, WINO.

Necro-post time!

Over at that spiffy new http://www.watchmencomicmovie.com/ site, the Mod is announcing that he's had to take down a link he was hosting to the first Alex Tse WATCHMEN draft from summer 2006 at the 'gracious request' of Warner Brothers Legal. The one with the contemporary post 9/11 setting but which still featured The Watchmen and The New Watchmen, mass death by faux Dr Manhattan death lightning, and dead squished-by-Owlship Veidt, same as the later Tse draft from the end o' 2006.

Spookily enough, you can also no longer access this draft via the links to megaupload and sendspace that were posted here at this board mooooonths ago - it's been taken down at both those hosting sites.

Just thought I'd mention it, is all. Sure it don't signify fer nuthin' (yeah, right.)

Who Watches the Watchmen Watchers? :cwink:
